THE ROLE OF THE SOCIAL MEDIA IN FOOD SAFETY.

Food safety can be said to be a scientific discipline that describes ways by which food should be handled,stored and prepared in order to prevent food borne diseases. It also includes a routine to be followed to avoid potential health hazards. So it can be said to be a procedure which identifies with the issue surrounding how food should be consumed.Although much progress has been made over the years in discerning the agent of food safety awareness and knowing the required components of food safety communications, this has not been linked with the development of effective and appropriate connecting factor. Little has been done in knowing the dangers of the explosion of social media and web development, which may offer better potentials for improving food safety awareness issue. Results from experts show that stakeholders and also the outside world confirms a future role of the social media in food safety information as well as other other informations in general.Speed, accessibility and interaction has made the social media an interesting and favourable platform for issue awareness raising.

Having known the importance of food safety,it needs to be made known to the public so as to enlighten them on what to eat, how to eat,store and prevent food borne diseases.There are lots of ways food safety awareness program can be publicized but the most effective is through the social media platform as it is the most visited, so the probability of the information getting to lots of people is high as keeping the social media at the prime of such issues today would shed more light on it thereby providing elaborate communication atmosphere, demanding a faster, smarter and more dynamic response. Foreign threats from critics and analyzers would be amplified,more ellaborate and immediate thereby providing the outside world with far more favourable chances,well polished and analysed information at their disposal.

The social media can provide lots of ways of making issues go viral considering that it is being accessed by lots of individuals of but we will be highlighting more on three important points which are;Providing insights to consumers by giving out warnings through food safety awareness program,identifying ideas and opinions centered on food safety and lastly spotting and reporting issues on time to the masses.
The social media can play a vital role in food safety through provison of insight to consumers perception by letting the public know more about a particular product,Getting out accurate information and correcting the record in the masse's interests, and when issues arise, they are best addressed and resolved where the conversations are taking place. Otherwise, a communicator might as well be expressing an unpopular opinion or idea.

Gone are those days when a toll-free complaint line was enough to reach out to consumers but today's dialogue take place in real time. News spreads within a matter of minutes. What was said maybe jokingly before the days of air travel will somehow later come out as the literal truth.

Secondly, the ability of the social media to ensure a sound,credible and science oriented campaign as well as identifying ideas and opinions which follows a time tested principle of swift response which is constantly renewed as new mode of communications set in as well as how people react on food related issues would go a long way in helping the masses to be enlightened about food safety.The social media could as well monitor a wide array of nutrition and food safety related topics.It could be a mode of facilitating exchange of information and also serve an early warning medium for upcoming issues.
Furthermore, the ability of social medias to spot and report issues across the supply chain cannot be overlooked as it tends to help the masses a lot by helping them understand the benefits and implications associated with a specific way of managing food the way they do thereby decreasing the mortality rate in a particular habitat.
In conclusion,social media are always part of the business especially if there is significant interest. While other organizations will be at the extreme end of their communication quiver,to be able to foresee the future, the information kept there will go unnoticed without vigorous social researches and self-optimization.
