El-Zakzaky's wife not in detention, merely keeping her husband's company — Presidency

By Isiaka Wakili | Publish Date: Jan 19 2017 4:30PMThe Presidency has said that the leader of the Islamic Movement of Nigeria, Ibrahim El-Zakzaky, cannot be released from detention because of public interest and security concerns, adding that El-Zakzaky''s wife is not in detention but merely keeping her husband''s company "in the apartment in which he is kept".

The Presidency has said that the leader of the Islamic Movement of Nigeria, Ibrahim El-Zakzaky, cannot be released from detention because of public interest and security concerns, adding that El-Zakzaky's wife is not in detention but merely keeping her husband's company "in the apartment in which he is kept".

A top Presidency official who did not want to be named, disclosed this to State House correspondents on Thursday.

According to him, the issue of the release of El-Zakzaky is not exclusively legal as it has security and public interest as against individual interest undertone.

On the said detention of El-Zakzaky's wife along side her husband, the official explained that the wife was not of any security interests and therefore was merely keeping her husband's company "in the apartment in which he is kept.

"She is not under detention. If it is her wish, that of her husband or of the IMAN, she will allowed to go home in a matter of hours," the official said.

He explained that El-Zakzaky's wife was picked up by the Department of Security Services (DSS) beside her husband with bullet wounds following IMAN's encounter with the army.

"They took her along with the husband, treated her wounds and allowed her to care for her husband. Upon his request on an occasion, the children joined them during Ramadan. That is what happened," the official said.

And why is her husband still in detention despite a court order to the contrary?

The presidency source is making this statement from a psychiatric hospital; probably, not 123 Calabar Road; those ones exhibit decorum!

The Presidency is crazy...

Keeping him company indeed? Are we fools..
Did Kudirat keep MKO company?
Did Stella keep Obasanjo Company?
Or Precious keep FFK company?
Why isn't Nnamdi Kanu being kept company?

The bad thing about the government is not that they lie but that they lie very unintelligently....

Zombies are NEVER intelligent

A woman and her husband are clearly held against their wish yet this wicked govt is turning common sense on its head by saying she is only keeping her Husband company against her wish to the extent her family have not heard a word from her for over a year..If Buhari's agenda of entrenching the Supremacy of a particular sect in Nigeria is not clear to all then I am sorry we are all too gullible

This is very funny indeed.

A court has ordered you to release her along with her husband and you claim she's free to go but only keeping company of her husband while you are keeping her under lock.

The new standard of human rights in vogue is that your wife can now keep you company in prison. grin

The real reason the woman won't be allowed to go is because if she's free she would reveal many things.

And as funny as the claim sounds, even though nonsense, the woman may not want to depart from the husband's presence but would like to keep an eye on his wellbeing. So she may not want to leave him in prison and entrust him to those keeping him. But really, if the government want to set her free, they won't mind her choice or opinion anyways. It's not like they took her where she is by her consent in the first place.

How do you expect Buhari to release the IMN leader or the so called "company keeper" of his wife when he and his governors feels they are "Constituted Authorities", or is there no such "court order" for the release of Nnamdi Kanu?
Infact meself na "Constituted Authority" jare.

Disobedience to court order.

You cherry pick which court ruling to obey and which to discard , in a democracy?

And this tyrant wants Jammeh to be honourable?

When will Buhari learn?

Hasn't the ordered for the release of the man? Why still keep him in detention?

Kaduna was the state with the 2nd highest vote for buhari in the last election, now both the Shiites & and southern people of kaduna who were part of it are paying dearly for their deeds.
