Some customers do it intentionally to force u to overpay them. Especially wen they observe u r tensed. They start whining u, so u lose concentration. They ll only notify d teller if dey were underpaid, but ll walk out swiftly as soon as dey notice d excess.

That's y as a teller, u don't show ur frustration or pressure. U smile at all times n try to relax. No matter d screaming from customers, just keep apologizing for d delay while u utilize ur TAT which is usually 5mins. Observe due diligence at all time, cos dats d first thing d bank will look at if anything goes wrong. So play ur part n God will handle d rest.
You are very right bro. Some customers could be so frustrating. Some would see how fast you are working and they would still open their mouth to say you are slow! I hate that word.

Working as a teller requires extra care. Worked as a Teller for one year during my IT and it was a funny experience. If customers on queue like they should be screaming so that I'll hurry up, my dear I go dy count my money carefully , because if I have shortage I'll pay. I had a colleague who paid #100,000 shortage.

Your write up shows that Nigerian banks are still in an analogue style of banking and they are not making things comfortable for the customers and the staffs.....This days, there are machine that dished out ticket numbers based on when you arrive the bank or the transaction you came to do in the bank...On getting to the banking hall, You just go to the ticket machine, and collect the number and find somewhere to sit..... You do not need to join any line... when your ticket number is called , you just go and do your business.....The ticket machine is even in most higher institutions for those that came for administration matters... And I do not think it is expensive to purchase by banks in Nigeria....

;DLol ;DLol I'm a bank teller and I can relate. I remember my second day at work while I was still training one customer brought huge sum and one of the note counters wasn't at work cos he was sick, so I was told to man his machine. I worked my ass off that day coupled with insults from customers like u are new, u are slow, we don't stay this long...There wasn't a single smile on my face that day. After the day's work, my CO then said to me. Welcome to being a teller. Customers can drop the F-words ehen anyways I have learnt to give the F-looks too

Asking the teller to pay isn't entirely right.
I'm sure most HOPs know this, though when it is an open-and-shut case, they find it easier resolvingcase, they find it easier resolving it that way.

Escalating it to internal control would portray poor supervision of the HOP and poor performance of the teller too_ which could lead to termination of the teller's appointment/low appraisal scores. Both parties are trying to avoid that, especially the teller(s). So, they willingly pay.

By the way, there are several specialised units in a bank_ maybe you hate operations and marketing.

I've never been rude to bank tellers except a bank manager @firstbank.

I told him I wanna withdraw money but I lost my atm if it could be possible to use the bank withdrawal slip but he said no that I should apply for another Atm and withdraw.

Chaiii, na I provoke eh. My small baby voice was heard by all that day. I was like? What do you mean? I'm in school, haven't eaten all day cos I lost my atm and you're saying I should wait? I'm waiting here sir, whether you like it or not.

Lol, all started begging me o, I sat in his office while he signed the withdrawal slip and I left to go and withdraw my 2k b4 hunger will finish me.

I'm always nice to bank tellers except Ecobank. Their tellers are always rude in all the branches I've been to. I don't know if they pay them at all. Had to close my account with them
I agree with you bro, ECO BANK is worse. I don't even have account with them, and I don't plan on walking into any of their branches in Nigeria again.

I noticed the 30K salary wasn't even a factor once you got started! The exposure to this kind 'face the public' job is a big plus in your resume if you have to compete with someone else with same qualifications for any job that requires you to face the public. From experience.... it teaches you how to be focused and ignore insults and criticisms.... and reminds you that not everyone that is looking responsible is correct in the head.

Relief teller would be pulled from a pool right ?

From a pool of other contract staffs.

So it is not possible .

I can only do that work for 1m naira a month and reason is that I can't imagine being in one place for the whole day but if i am to do that, then I can only do it for 1m naira or above monthly. That's slavery.
