The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, yesterday April 20th, arraigned Benedicta Akunna Onwuamagbu pictured above and her hotel, Benitex Hotels Limited before Justice A.M Liman of the Federal High Court Port Harcourt, Rivers State on one count charge bordering on obtaining by false pretense to the tune of N120 million.
The count reads “that you Benedicta Akunna Onwuamagbu between 23rd February, 2010, at Muoba Rumuokwuta, Port Harcourt within the jurisdiction of this Honorable court with intent to defraud obtained a building and premises known as Focal Hotels Limited situate, lying and being at No. 121, NTA Road, Mgbuoba Obio/Akpor Local Government Area Rivers State from one Chief Engr. Obadiah Ezenekwe, under the pretence that you are capable of paying the total sum of N120.000,000.00 (One Hundred and Twenty Million Naira) only being the cost price for the sale of the building and premises, which pretext you knew to be false and thereby committed an offence contrary to section 1 (1) (b) of the Advance Fee Fraud and other Fraud Related Offences Act, 2006 and punishable under section 1 (3) of the same Act. She pleaded not guilty to the charge”.

In view of her plea, the prosecution counsel, E. Abiyesuku, asked for a date for the commencement of trial. However, the defense counsel, Dr. A. O. Yusuf applied for bail for the defenfant pending trial. Justice Liman granted her bail in the sum of One Million Naira (N1, 000, 000. 00) and one surety in like sum. The matter was adjourned to June 15, 2016 for trial and the defendant remanded in prison custody pending the perfection of her bail.

A Facebook user, King Tino shared this story on his timeline. He said a teenager who tried to steal a phone in Sapele, Delta state had his hand cut off by the home owner. The teen boy slipped his hand through the open window of the home and tried to grab a phone that was lying there, unfortunately for him, the home owner saw his hand, picked up a cutlass and chopped off the teenager’s hand.
The teenager ran away and left his hand behind. He was later found at the hospital being treated in the photo above. Photos of the cut off hand after the cut..

John Dumelo took to his Instagram page on Saturday to recount a robbery encounter in Nigeria on his way back to a hotel. According to the actor who is currently shooting a movie somewhere in the country, the armed robbers blocked his car, but they managed to escape by speeding off. He shared a stock photo of a man with his hands raised in praise and wrote:

“Yesterday we were attacked by armed robbers on our way back to the hotel from filming in Nigeria. The robbers wearing black, blocked the car we were in, got down with their guns and walked towards our car.
It was God who took over the wheel. Our driver swerved and sped off. They just stood there watching. As if to say “these are not the people we have to rob”. Anything could have happened to us. My brothers and sisters, there is God! Believe in Him and He shall protect you. I thank God for my life and the lives of my fellow actresses in the car. #Jesustookthewheel #praiseGod

The state commissioner for Agriculture, Ronke Sokefun raised alarm yesterday, while addressing stakeholders and ‘Ponmo’ sellers in her office in Abeokuta, over the discovery of poisonous cattle hide and skin otherwise known as ‘Ponmo’ in some markets in the state, warning the people against its consumption.

She said some unscrupulous businessmen were taking advantage of the gap in demand and supply of the soup ingredient popularly called ‘Ponmo’ to sell industrial ‘Ponmo’ laden with tanning chemicals to the unsuspecting public.

She explained how the toxic ‘Ponmo’ otherwise known as ‘imported ‘Ponmo’ can easily be identified in the market; it is often brownish black, foul smelling, abnormally thick with layers and ridiculously cheap compared to the certified ‘Ponmo’, she said..
