Have you condemned oil theft and installation of those illegal refineries? Do you mean that such activity doesn't harm the environment and doesn't lead to black soot?
is it your oil? do u know how local consumption of petroleum products are met? let us advocate for the legalisation of small scale refining. this is the only way out of this.

For once I agree .

I don't see the sense in destroying local industry instead work towards legitimisation and regulation of these small scale refineries.

Also I fail to comprehend the sense in the NAF bombing and destroying boats they believe to be carrying bunkered / stolen crude.

What about the lives of the bunkerers that may be lost ? After all you are dealing with Nigerians who are trying to make a living, they are not at war with us, whats wrong with getting men on the ground to effect their arrest?. Secondly what of the environmental impact all the crude the water after the boats are bombed?

The worst is that the same level enforcement is not carried when it comes to illegal mining.

Government should learn from the so called illegal refineries builder's . They are able to build a workable refinery with very little resources and their products sold and consume safely. What the government cannot do with all the enormous resources. Shame to The zoo

Government should harness the so called illegal refineries, not destroy them. In fact, help them by getting their businesses legal. We need save dollars on petrol importation by all means necessary.

Only an out of the box thinking is going to get us out of this economic mess.

This is the only thing I fault GEJ. He had the whole time in the world to have his people register their mini refineries and legalize them while he was in office. But, he ballooned the opportunity!!.
.actually those things are distilleries not refineries.
Can the rivers state house of assembly come up with ideas on friendly ways of shutting down the refineries.

95% of Rivers assembly members are ex-militants. They probably own those refineries.

We have no functional refineries in Nigeria, yet they are destroying the functional ones. I am not saying it's legal to set up illegal refineries, but the govt can licence and support them n am sure it will go a long way to increasing the qty we use, also as a source of income for the government.

If allowed they'll build standard refineries in future. It would only take them some years of experience.

Bros, I clean up the environmental mess those guys commit.
They have no idea of what a refinery is, its not by cutting down trees in a forest and cooking crude on big drums you get the idea of building refineries

Yes because Nigerian constitution. Sadly all land and mineral rights in exclusive domain of federal government. Hence why you don't own land you occupy it.

Reforms should be made to order for individuals (companies) to own land and mineral. Everyone's iDea of resources control skips that fact.

why has your FG never use sambisa forest for rice farm ?

It's that way because they're doing it in hiding cutting pipelines to access crude oil. When made official, they'll get crude officially without spills. They'll also get funding to build better refineries.

The honourable member is right for advocating for a healthy environment. Heaping illegality to another illegality is evil. I believe that the burning of the petroleum products could be the reason for the black soot in Port Harcourt

Pay a visit to the illegal refineries and you will wonder why members of the host community allow such wicked degradation in the name of illegal refinery. Those things are not real refineries and don't even produce useful chemicals.

I don't know. Is FG in farming business? Why didn't FG use coal as way cut off reliance on gas and circumvent pipeline vandals? There are many questions let's answer the ones that aren't pointless first.

Bros those people don't have an idea on refining, there is a huge difference btw refining and distilling, which they are doing.
Should they even attempt to go legal they will run in loss, only waste mgt will cripple them.
If it was easier for them to sell the crude directly they will, what they are doing is a waste of resources.
What the useless Nigerian govt should be thinking of write now is buying modular refineries and paying with crude, not repairing one useless relic , that should be in a museum or building one gigantic monstrosity that if it breaks down ,becomes an issue.
