Nigeria !!! People worship pastors more than God. Any attempt to take them (pastors) up on their statements,is met with 'we are not supposed to question 'men of God' or 'let God judge'. We seem to have this false impression that God loves the pastor more than every other person?

Judge everything anybody tells you and don't be gullible !

We have the highest percentage of 'holy men',yet the most prevalent corruption and poverty in Africa.

Start thinking !!! Its not a SIN TO REASON.

The suicide bomber is told he should not reason, cos it may be the 'devil' trying to confuse him. . . . . the same reasoning is now in christianity

The church leaders have their children in America & UK and they continue to tell you to pray & it will be well grin grin grin grin

Well, once you have been convinced to worship a "god", you are just a tiny step away from worshipping just about anything, and that includes pastors or imams.

God bless U man,,,,even the Bible says as a man thinketh in his heart so is that man,,,it simply means that nobody can ever be better than his thought life,,,

@Poster,,,God bless you man,,,even the Bible says "as a man thinketh in his heart so is he" it simply no man can ever be better than his thought life,,,,what we have in NIGERIA as churches/pastors are a bunch of hypocrites and Religiuos bigots,,who re eternally confused and probably with certain degree of psychological depression,,,
The interview with Pastor Tunde Bakare is no doubt an eye openner,,,,though a good number of people having making bakare position about churches very clear here on NL,,,,long b4 his interview with the news magazine

Its a really sad fact. . . . . ,

I recall something that happened a few years back :

My dad worships with deeper life, now I have nothing but respect for the GS of deeper life (pastor Kumuyi),but  during one of his sermons ,he preached against US Visa lottery, calling it 'modern slavery'. . . . my dad(like most church members) accepted this funny point of view & we had an argument about this.

Now I came across a magazine article recently in which pastor kumuyi stated that his 2 sons are studying in the US.

Now ,why would you paint the US as some sort of slave depot, while your children are trying to get a better life there?

Precisely. . . . .so rather than people applying common sense to whatever they hear in church, they take it hook, line & sinker. And whenever anyone raises any issue you are working for the devil. My GO has a house in the UK. I respect him,but people should open their eyes. . . .

Imagine someone saying he went to hell & saw somebody else ,& he was given the opportunity to come back to the earth

The main objective is to have people in this perpertual fear of going to hellfire,so they spend every day of the week  in church . . . hoping & praying to make heaven. Continuously giving their all and  questioning nothing. . . . ,  . . .  & yet from this 'revelation' nothing is guaranteed. . .meanwhile pastor is sorting himself in this life ,but encouraging you to forget this world & invest in your eternity. . . . grin grin

Because we are corrupt and greedy, that's why. We christians are seeking first money, power and "breakthrough", when we were commanded to seek first the kingdom of God. How far have we strayed from the first set of christians. If we go back to the book of Acts and study how the first generation of christians lived, we would be ashamed of ourselves. No one is saying that all christians should live in poverty, especially in Nigeria where poverty is seen as something worse than leprosy. It's all about living to glorify God, not living to make money and show everyone that you're not suffering.

Partially true. . . . but we can't live exactly like the early christians. The world is very different now. The Bible should always be read in context.

I HAVE NOTHING TO ADD TO ALL THIS FOR NOW. THIS IS ONE OF THE 'TRUEST' SET OF COMMENTS I HAVE SEEN HERE IN THE RELIGION SECTION. I HAVE BEING SAYING THESE THINGS TO PEOPLE EVERYWHERE OVER AND OVER AND OVER AGAIN.

Especially this:

I will like to implore all of us to please download this ebook. I believe it will open our eyes into what the bible has to say about the Present day church. Over the past 2-3 years, I have been doing an extensive study on this. Its unbelievable.

I'm sure the early church had their challenges as well. They had the rich and the poor. They had corrupt preachers who favoured certain people because of ther wealth. They had occultic people who did magic and tried to use the name of Jesus to vover up. Yes, circumstances may have changed but attitudes remain the same, so it is absolutely possible to live like the early christians. I won't deny that obviously we have more obstacles, as temptations are now easily accessible, but then we have guidelines on how to avoid these.

When I say we're living in a different world now,I'm talking literally & not necessarily spiritually. The spiritual aspects may actually be similar. Economically speaking the early recorded church in Acts practised what we now call socialism;everyone brings everything & we all share, that isn't practical today.

The main gist for me is that we should stop being gullible. . . . . .reason everything out. . . . . . . . . .stop all these "because this 'man of God' said it,so it has to be true". . . .we have more than ample evidence to show that 'men of God' can (and continue to) make mistakes.

Secondly because he is a 'man of God' doesn't mean he is more important than you ! God created everyone of us for a purpose !

sad , sad we remain gullible.
Re: Why Are We So Gullible? by jagunlabi(m): 2:11pm On Dec 08, 2009
The problem here is that people don't want to reason or think for themselves. They'd rather have someone else do all that "dirty" work for them. They'd rather have all the answers served them on a plate.

Ofcourse, that opens them to all sorts of mind manipulations and controls. We can't really blame the manipulators because the manipulated willingly opened themselves up to all kinds of manipulations to begin with.

By the time they start attempting to think for themselves, there thoughts are no longer their own, but somebody else's, their manipulator's, to be exact.Nairaland religious forum is filled with such people.

We can never be manipulated unless we allow ourselves to be.
