I got into a serious argument with some "Christians" yesterday and it got me thinking how gullible we Nigerian/Africans/Blacks can be when you put a religious twist to a seemingly baseless story.

They said that the reason that Nigeria is the way it is is because of we hosted Festac 77. They argued that Nigeria will never develop because during Festac 1977 a lot of countries brought foreign gods into the country in the name of artworks and sculptures. They claim that these foreign gods are causing confusion for us in Nigeria.

They said some pastor at Jesus Sanctuary preached it and they believe it. how gullible

do you have any stupid stories to share

The problem is un-enlightenment. In the African setting, people are raised to believe in superstitious forces without question. They are also spoon fed with religion and are told that it's unquestionable. If you choose to be different, you are looked upon as an outcast. That is why during the early 90's when a rumor was spread that the world would end at a certain date, millions of people swallowed the rumor hook, line and sinker. Many Nigerians sold off their properties and took refuge in church/mosques. That's just how gullible people could be.

How sad!

Gullibility is simple and straightforward. Just believe whatever BS is thrown at you. It can hardly get easier than that. Why bother the brain cells with never ending detailed analysis of every data that come at you. Too much work. Just be gullible, that is all, and you will inherit the kingdom of jesus and his daddy. Blessed are the gullibles for they shall inherit the kingdom of heaven. Whoever tortures his/her brain cells in this life through too much "carnal" analysis, shall be punished in the afterlife via eternal damnation. grin

What about England that went about robbing the world's temples and palaces of their idols and craftworks and took them back to their museums? They should be derelict by now. The funny thing is that I've heard the exact opposite argument. That British colonial armies stole all these idols in order to seize their power. Then they used it to build their empire.
They said that was the same thing with Napoleon who first invaded Egypt in order to steal power contained in certain artifacts such as Cleopatra's needle.
That is why also the Nazi spent a lot of resources trying to track down the ark of the covenant because they believed that which ever army marched with it was guaranteed victory.
Menh, once you turn the imagination loose there is no end to what you can conjure up.

I have always wondered what the fascination of these nations is with all them ancient artifacts. They must definitely have gotten something useful(whatever that is) from those ancient carvings and artifacts. The white races are definitely not gullible. They know exactly what they are doing when they do the things they do. There is always well informed intent behind their actions.

Oyibo collect artefact's for money.these artefact's are in the museum and if you want to see them you pay money to view them. simple economics.

looks like if we don't want to think far we blame it on superstition and wizardry

It could well have been simple economics but there is also often a superstitious element added to it.

Back in the day, during medieval times, cities and countries used to spend loads of money and resources trying to get hold of stuff they called Relics. When a city had a relic that was like economic salvation because people would travel far and wide to come and see or touch the relic. This was good for tourism etc and for making a city famous and respected. But there is no doubt that a lot of them actually believed in the power of these relics.
Of course a lot of relics were fakes. If you couldn't find a relic and you were cynical enough all you had to to is fabricate one and hey presto, you're in business.

^^ Pastor, these things are mixed bags, they always are, especially when trying to understand the intent behind seemingly illogical actions of civilizations or individuals of a distant past.

When a person like Hitler goes about looking for ancient relics with such dedication, it is quite an error to think that it is only just for cash. People like Hitler are not usually about wealth, but about power, global power. and they would stop at nothing to get their hands on anything that would give them that, even if that thing is an ancient relic(s).
