Alot is wrong with it.
Nigeria is the largest producer of cassava. How on earth should we be importing gari into our market? We are not encouraging our industry to grow at all. Umudike and IITA should have better technologies for the processing of cassava into gari than importing from India.

Did you visit shoprite?

Do you see the foreign groundnut (ritebrand PEANUT) ,cashewnut, banana, irish potatoes, etc there are lots of thimgs they sale in those shops that you can get easily in naija market but packaging and nutritional analysis is what is lacking.

Isnt it also possible that an indian is processing it and packaging right here in nigeria? Would that make bad then?

Cassava is on import prohibited list. I wonder how garri then enter into our country.

Because garri is not in the list wink

But seriously, here's another example of we're just bleeped up.

We have graduates complaining about lack of jobs, not opening their minds to all the possibilities. Then enterprising Indians see and exploit an opportunity.

i wonder how we Nigerians react to issue so you are telling me that there are branded banana and potatoes with nutritional analysis in shoprite?
what we are after is job creation through made in Nigeria goods, i don't care who create this jobs whether Indians or Chinese but it has to be processed here in Nigeria because we have all it takes including the raw materials by doing this the farmer and the factory workers will be happy why the consumers will also be sure of good product with high health benefit. simply

I agree with you in the main, but the issue is squarely with Nigerian elite hiding money/buying cakes reminiscent of money/buying the latest cars/flying to Dubai/pouring expensive drinks on watches and phones.

If they don't create jobs for Nigerians, why the hell should an Indian or Chinese person? They, like most businesses, exist to make money, and are not charity. If their business models does not need labour, why force it?

Again, I get what you're saying, but feel the anger should be directed at ourselves for this foolishness

Re: Indian Garri Being Sold In Nigerian Supermarkets (Photos) by world1(m): 12:52am On Feb 20, 2017
We wish to one more time express overwhelming appreciation to concerned and of course patriotic citizens of our dear country Nigeria, who spoke out in outer condemnation of the sale and distribution of the Asia manufactured Garri that we drew attention to a few hours ago. It is pertinent to state for the records that although 'silence is golden', it loses its shine when applied in the presence of societal ills that threaten our collective wealth and shrinks the already narrowed hopes of attaining to the full dividend of our God endowed potentials. it is perhaps in toast to this timeless truth that Richard Burke insists that 'the hottest places in hell are reserved for those who remain silent in the face of evil...'
A great deal of Nigerians of scrupulous consciences, propelled by pure love for motherland have since the alert on the sale of Asian Garri in Nigeria, probed further, and made discoveries in buttress of our earlier position on the issue under reference.

The product can be readily found in some supermarkets around Lagos and particularly in Victoria Island, further investigations reveal that it is a product of TRS an Indian company registered in the UK.http://www.trs.co.uk/products/categories/OOCTUG82206220 , http://www.trs.co.uk/contact-us Curiously too, this product has inscription on its packaging indicating it is also a product of Ghana. A key puzzle of this strange product is that it had no NAFDAC number, but has been on been in the Nigerian market for an upwards of 3yrs running. How the this product come in?

In all sincerity of intent and good conscience, we would like to say that this whole outcry hasn't a dint of of a witch hunt, but a conviction that as a nation, collective action and engagement must be employed in a bid to take responsibility for our collective heritage, and of course our future. just imagine how many of such unverified food items have made life threatening incursions into our county; Juices, diary products, food pastes, etc. We have continued to experience some shocking and untraceable outbreaks of strange diseases and illnesses in this country in recent times. we are wondering if this sort of sneaked in products do not provide us the much needed answer of where such calamities immerge.

On the economic side, and particularly with regards to growing our economy through the Small and Medium Scale Enterprises route, the magnitude of hipocrisy on the side of government agencies like the Customs, NAFDAC and other such regulatory agencies is actually sickening. Here is a product produced outside Nigeria, without NAFDAC number, but on sale in supermarkets in Nigeria in the last 3yrs in Lagos and other State capitals in Nigeria. Yet Start up entrepreneurs and small scale industries in Nigeria are slammed with near impossible conditions for production, while these stringent conditions and other factors that bother on the peculiarities of our business environment challenges tend to jack up the cost of production within the country, faceless diaspora producers who most times have no iota of regulations and standards to follow, come up with their cheaply produced but substandard products, to compete with local producers who have been subjected to all degrees of near production impossibilities.

The multiplier effect of this uneven playing ground are indeed grave; Locally produced food items would not be able to favourably compete with these substandard death traps from outside the shores of our country, the proceeds of our patronage will be ploughed back into developing another economy at the expense of ours, and thereby instituting the 21st century version of colonialism (this time painfully by nations much smaller, and with far less development potentials).

This is both a call to reason, and collective action. while it is true that so many other things are wrong with the management of the Nigerian State needing attention in the class of an emergency, there is no department of patriotism, responsibility and national pride, that is headquartered in silence, sarcasm or even hollow and vain arguments. Today more than ever before we must unite as a people to call a spade its real name, and chart a new cause that would spell progress in all its manifestations for our dear country.

That was the result of the successful lies, propaganda and falsehood that formed part of the demonisation process led by the Asiwaju Asiwere of area boys after he was tried by CCT in late 2011.
This prompted Buhari to recruit him in September 2013
to package the "expired" leader and serial failure of 2003, 2007 and 2011 into their "only saviour" of 2015.

Yet govt are telling us they don't know the reason for the inflation...... We are really in trouble with this govt & their inept cabinet.

Governance is not just about ruling, but about creating a favorable environment for citizens in the country to florish. The ruling government polices shows that really don't care about the citizens. The government increased the prices of everything necessary for production and left salaries alone.
How on earth do they want the people to survive?

This is the type of Nigerian World1 is talking about. The same India that blocked so many goods from coming into their country to protect local industries. The will never allow okrika, tokunbo cars, appliances in their country. Today they make all these proudly with Indian hands spawning employment of the teeming youths.

The bigger tragedy is a Nigerian desiring to eat Indian garri, heck they don't even have their own local names for it, and see no issues with garri made with Indian hands to the unemployment of even a single Nigerian garri maker. Just because the Nigerian eating Indian Gari garri feels better off than those who don't due to having some miserable spare change.

When are we going to start loving ourselves the way other progressing countries love themselves first?
