Yar’Adua’s daughter in the US to have a baby, as father continues search for answers and political manipulators take over Nigeria. PDF

Written by Saharareporters, New York

Umaru Yar’Adua’s daughter, Nafisat Yuguda, is in the United States to have her first child. She is seven months pregnant. She arrived in New York yesterday accompanied by her husband, Bauchi State governor Isah Yuguda, who has three other wives. Yuguda, whose father-in-law is in a Saudi Arabia hospital being treated for a variety of serious diseases, brought his wife to the United States because no hospital in Bauch State, which he runs, or anywhere else in Nigeria, was thought to be good enough for the delivery. Last year, Yar’Adua’s second daughter Zainab, who is equally married to another governor, Dakingari of Kebbi State, also delivered her baby in the US.

Prior to embarking on his US trip, Yuguda had just returned to Nigeria empty-handed after spending several days in Saudi Arabia unable to see Yar’Adua or confirm his condition. He was evacuated to Jeddah under a medical emergency two weeks ago.

Upon arrival in New York, the full machinery of Nigerian diplomatic presence in the United States was fully and shamelessly put in at the service of the governor. Yuguda and his family were personally accompanied and driven to the Chevy Chase area of Maryland by Ambassador Wakil, the acting Nigerian ambassador to the US, who had gone all the way to New York to receive them.

They following day, Yuguda and his family moved out of the Chevy Chase accommodation, where they stayed overnight, into a tastefully furnished apartment in Bethseda, Maryland. Nafisat is expected to stay there until she has her baby, and the Nigerian embassy in Washington DC will put its resources to cater for their every need. According to sources in Washington DC, Yuguda will leave on Arik Air on Friday, but it is not clear if he will be returning to his other wives, or to Saudi Arabia, as Bauchi State does not seem to hold any priority for the governor.
Meanwhile, officials of the Nigerian government now confirm that Yar’Adua was in “intensive care,” as had earlier been reported by Saharareporters when we detailed how he was unconscious for four hours in Saudi Arabia on Tuesday, November 24, a situation which led his aides to spread the word that he had passed on to the great beyond.

Since his purported recovery from coma, no one, except his wife, has seen Yar’Adua or spoken to him. Although Yar’Adua’s VP, Goodluck Jonathan, has tried to convey the impression that he has been in touch, Saharareporters can authoritatively report that he has not spoken to his boss since Monday, November 23 shortly before Yar’Adua was evacuated. At this point, it is not even known if Yar’Adua can speak, but his emergency medical travel scuttled a planned vacation by Mr. Jonathan who had asked to go on vacation for his routine medical check-up in the US. Nigerian doctors do not trust either their own doctors or hospitals, and they do little to improve the nation’s medical infrastructure and facilities.

Yar’Adua suffers from advanced Churg Strauss Disease, in relation to which he recently admitted suffering from “Acute Pericarditis,” a critical complication of an auto-immune disease that continues to eat away at his vital organs. He has not, however, admitted to suffering from Churg Strauss syndrome.

Since admitting to a heart condition, however, many Nigerians—including his mother, friends, associates, professional bodies and individuals—have called upon Yar’Adua to resign from office and face his health condition squarely, but he seems to have chosen power over his own health. Although it is not known if he is able to make any decisions at this time, it is known that his wife, Turai and some associates, particularly the Minister of Agriculture, Abba Rumna, have waged a ferocious campaign against Nigerians that are insisting that Yar’Adua is impaired and ought to obey the constitution and resign. Some of those agitators, who come from his own home state, Katsina, co-signed a popular petition that has been circulating worldwide, and they cite, and stand by the rule of law. But a murderous group led by Yar’adua’s cousin, Zubair Gafai and funded by the Executive Secretary of the Petroleum Development Trust Fund (PTDF),Muttaqha Rabe Darma, have tragetted the former speaker of the House of Representatives and several other Katsina citizens with threats of assassination other repercussions.
Ruma and the Attorney General of the Federation, Michael Aondoakaa, who seem to be feeling very powerful, have also concluded plans to “impeach” the President of the Nigeria Bar Association, Rotimi Akeredolu, at the upcoming National Executive Council (NEC) of the NBA.

In addition, Ruma, who only spends foreign currency in Abuja, is heavily invested in the local media to keep Yar’Adua’s health matters, especially its severity, off the radar. Our sources cited a bizarre report by Lagos-based ThisDay newspaper yesterday to the effect that Yar’Adua’s letter requesting the VP to take over was “seized,” and returned to him by his legislative aide, Mohmammed Abba Aji, was part of a grand plot to divert attention from Yar’Adua’s health crisis and create some new fall guys for the failure of Yar’Adua to hand over to his VP as is required by the Nigerian constitution.

Even though, Abba Aji has denied the charges, ThisDay curiously has claimed they “stand by their story,” without providing any evidence to affirm the veracity of the story. Instead, they wrote a few tepid posers for Abba Aji, which clearly did not mesh with their earlier proclamation that he opened the letter on his way to the National Assembly, returned it to Yar’Adua, and that Yar’Adua requested the AGF to give a legal advice that never came before he was evacuated. Aondoakaa did not deny the story because apparently he might have been in on the plan to take a fall on Yar’Adua’s behalf.

Saharareporters sources said the story couldn’t have been true because, according to his doctor’s account, Yar’Adua fell ill late on Friday, when the Senate was not in session. They also attested to the fact that Abba Aji was given a draft of the budget, an incomplete copy of which he hurriedly delivered, to the National Assembly. It would be recalled that the National Assembly only received a four-page PowerPoint presentation of the national “budget.”

Political associates of Yar’Adua in Katsina say he is adept at using people around him to do his dirty jobs so as to look good, and then abandon them. While he was Katsina Governor, he travelled to Germany for six months to seek medical treatment, and handed over to his deputy, Tukur Bakori. As soon as he returned, and to cover up for his absence, Yar’Adua then had Bakori impeached for corruption, by the state legislature. The current Ambassador to Saudi Arabia, Alhaji Abdullahi Garba Aminchi, was then appointed to the position of Yar'Adua's Deputy Governor. In his current position, Minchi has so far done well in planting stories in both foreign and local media manipulating Yar’Adua’s health-related information. It was he who first claimed that Yar’Adua was headed to Hajj with his wife, even though at the time, Yar’Adua was battling for life in intensive care. And recently, he claimed that Yar’Adua was watching soccer games on TV in his Jeddah hospital bed. It is not known if Yar’Adua loves soccer that much since he did not watch any of the games of the recently concluded Under-17 tournament, including the final which was held in Abuja. Minchi knew fully well that Nigerians, being soccer fanatics, would share some sympathy with a soccer–watching absentee president, but he may have under-estimated their concern at how such a leader, who swears by the rule of law, would abandon his obligations under the constitution.

In addition, Yar’Adua’s Minister of Information, Dora Akunyili, has stepped up propaganda to attack those calling for Yar’Adua’s resignation. In the last two days, including today, she has sent our curious press releases through her assistant, Julius Ogunro. In the first, she speaks on behalf of Yar’Adua’s mother to deny that she does not have any disagreement with his wife Turai; the release was sent with photos of Yar’Adua’s sister, Hajiya Mairo Musa Yar’adua. In the second, which she sent out today on behalf of Hon. Goddy Ikerave, a former member of the National Assembly, she attacked former Speaker Masari, who last week signed the patriotic petition urging the president to show loyalty to the constitution of Nigeria.
The latest intrigues are aimed are keeping Nigerians distracted and divided, which perfectly suits Yar’Adua’s agenda to cling on to power even though he would be unable to function in any serious capacity, having been sidelined by a relentless disease.

Last week, a Lebanese–American cardiac electrophysiologist, whose identity remains a secret, was to travel to meet him in Nigeria, but our sources said he had to be flown to Saudi Arabia because Yar’Adua could not travel to Nigeria last Wednesday as had been planned by members of his kitchen cabinet who wished to keep up the ruse that their meal ticket is well enough to rule 150 million people.

The cross-continental hiring of an electrophysiologist signals that Yar’Adua’s condition may be more serious than has been understood up to now, or diagnosed. Electrophysiologists are rare and specialized cardiologists who diagnose and treat of abnormal heart rhythms known as “Arrhythmias”. The field is so new and their training so rigorous that some states in the United States have fewer than 10. Arrhythmias could be deadly complication in Acute Pericarditis.

This means that to get one of them assigned to an individual and flown to Nigeria at such short notice must be costing a good chunk of the national budget Yar’Adua has been too sick to prepare.

Not because there are no good hospitals for child birth in Nigeria. It is simply because of US citizenship for the kids which is automatic for any child born here.

If he explains from now till end of the year, a shameless person and an ignorant fool will never understand. So he shouldn't bother explaining anything cos the shame is obvious enough.

Please tell me which foreign airline operating in Nigeria that will deny the President's daughter from boarding. The Governor of Bauchi even went with her to ensure no yawa sef. Unless the airline wants Yaradua and their govt buffons to ban their operations, they will just let the be.
Several "normal" nigerian women are sent back all the time by the airlines.
If you search well on this forum, you can get info on a woman who didn't just get turned back, but had an American Visa cancelled becos the UK personnel realized she was pregnant and called the US embassy to verify if they knew she was pregnant prior to issuing the visa. She was transiting tru the UK to the US
