150MW + 115MW = 620
When they asked the OP to be serious with mathematics he thought his teachers hated him

Anyway, the DISCOs will take the additional power and will not pay because customers are not metered as a deliberate policy

You need to improve on your critical reasoning

When it was only Kainji Dam producing power for the nation, did you ask for the decentralization?

OK, where should Ebonyi get power from? Or even Anambra?

BTW, all the states of the federation are allowed to generate their own power! We will still need the National Grid to take advantage of excess capacity produced by any state as well as need it to enable intervention. Without the National grid, if Alaoji in Abia state is down or under going maintenance, how would the people of Abia State now get electricity if their is no National grid?
how has d present method in use helped to solve d problem of power outage?

Oga Sir Kainji was never the only one producing power! We can have national grids and state grid too! I see no reason why a state should invest it's own money in power generation and it will then send it to the national grid, it makes mockery of the effort of the states and does not allow serious states to move forward be it a nothern state or southern one.

Please for those of us that are confused about the generation, it was cause the person that posted the news didnt detailed it, the turbine was formerly generating 100MW, but it was upgraded after it got faulty and its the first of it kind in the plant, the turbines there are having 100MW and 25MW as it may apply in the Delta, cause apart from Delta4, both Delta 2 and 3 generate 25MW each, with 6turbines in each delta but not all are working, with some having issues and like delta 1, some are obsolete already, mind you if there is a total blackout in the whole national, this is the only plant apart from afam plant that can backfeed and blackstart other turbines..

Chief, that is not an old outdated system. That unit is a GE frame 9E Gas turbine and MKVIE Controls System. MKVIE is GE latest smart Controls system technology. And the Generator, a hydrogen cooled 50Hz Generator is also brand new.
That said... Our problem is more of DISCO than GENCOs.The best solution is to have these GENCOs supply directly to the End-users because the kwarruption in the DISCOs is massive with reference to their Energy rejection and 'Estimated billings'.

Chief, c'mmon... There are other power plants with blackstart capabilities. Have you been to Ihovbor, Sapele and Calabar power plants?

I so much agree with your submission. GENCOs should be the ones collecting electricity bills directly from consumers. That way, they would even be eager to generate more power.

What Olaifeboy said is right. Blackstarting a plant is different from blackstarting the grid. Ughelli has the power to blackstart (resuscitate) the grid which all those plant that you mentioned cannot do: Sapele, Ihobvor and Calabar!!! Take it or leave it!!!!

I had explained to you why there is a need for the National Grid. Once again, there is nothing stopping any state from generating power for teh state as there is no law that states the power must be evacuated to the National Grid.

There is no other means of evacuating this particular power except through the National Grid. Has the presence of Federal Universities make mockery of the state universities, has Unity Schools made mockery of state schools?

When you realise that your present power outage is NOT because the power plant in your state shut down but because a power plant in another state, far away from you, had shutdown. Then you'd realise that without the National Grid, your state might be in perpetual darkness.

Chief, we are not fighting. We are here to share info and also to learn from one another. Please note that that Calabar and Sapele have Island mode capability. Ihovbor too will be fully functional in no distant time. Sapele has been tested and it worked but because of the business side of it which is yet to be agreed upon, that is why they did not continue with it. But these plants have the ability to blackstart the grid. Many thanks for reading.
