So how was Dr Ngozi Okonjo as minister in two occasions able to tower above the Cbn governor with two different administrations?

That is one of the reasons we are where we are now. Wasn't Okonjo there when the economy started current downward trend? The truth is there is lack of confluence between monetary and fiscal policies, and until both complement each other we won't have a balanced economic policy.

She was the Prime Minister. Minister of Finance and Chairman Economic Management Team. Kemi does not enjoy such power.

This call from madam Kemi just confirms her incompetence. She is supposed to be providing leadership to the CBN and not cry like someone who has been given a task too big for her.

Did you read where she said she has absolutely no authority or control over what the CBN does?.. and are you aware that on several occasions she had proposed one thing and the CBN proposed the opposite?

She is right.

Imagine ministry of finance suggesting a low interest rate for small scale business while a capitalist dunderhead at cbn insist on high interest rate.

Cut cbn power now.
She's wrong. The CBN should be autonomous.

I dont blame that incompetent woman rather I blame those that gave a very sensitive post to a rookie. Imagine the trash coming from a so called minister of finance when the norm or industry best practise in advanced countries is an autonomy for Central banks so they wont be manipulated by goverment. This Kemi of a woman will go down as the worst minister of finance in recent times. Instead of these din.gbats to rally round, form a synergy and rescue the country from recession, they are busy chasing after straws! !DIATS!!!

The CBN governor right now has the power to make decisions without consulting anyone....Every sane country in the world does this. We should not be regressing.

This is what we get when we put someone who doesn't understand the dynamics of a Central Bank in power.

She said CBN sacked bank MDs overnight?

Does she know what would have happened to this economy if those guys were left there? Does she know how much CBN had spent in trying to bail out those banks before they sacked the MDs? Does she know how decisions are made in CBN.

It is so unfortunate that our Minister of Finance is talking like this.

This kind of talk would even scare away foreign investors.

Finally, CBN is under the purview of the Presidency and not the Ministry of Finance, she should focus on more important issues abeg

and how is that working out so far?

What is the point of having ministry of finance and a bank which acts as a ministry.

A bank undermining the power of entire ministry?

This is the problem i have with his our English teacher.

You were asked a specific question, as on steering the Economy, "What will the money in TSA be used to do?", she said we are "Thinking"......... angry

That is how 2019 elections will come and they will still be thinking....... undecided

Nonsense and ingredients.......

This lady is planning something.
In fact, legislooters should remove some powers from her and give to someone else that can act in the capacity of Fin. Minister. She seems to be acting in a capacity of community bank cashier. She does not not her boundary and portfolio that is why she is crying wolf

Will cutting their powers make #1=$1?

If no,do you part and let them be

And what is the significance of the 1$ to naira?
Can you explain further?
All these learners on nairaland forming economic experts do you know that the exchange rate of Japanese Yen to Dollar is 112? Do you know that Japanese economy is the world's third largest economy by GDP and the world's 4th largest economy by purchasing power parity? Do you also know that Japan has less than 4% unemployment rate? It may interest you further that the average Japanese monthly wage is $8000.
This means that the exchange rate to dollar does not actually determine how strong an economy is. There are a lot of other indexes that matter too.

So that CBN will no longer be independent, but under her Ministry. Just sit with CBN and agree on a mutual understanding. Otherwise, the likes of Sens Saraki, Dino etc will go beyond where you send them.

Cut cbn power now.

Lower interest rate, will make Nigeria unattractive to investors, which will lead to the main inflation.

Which kind economies be this o? Lower interest rate will chase investors? Choi

So what is chasing investors now? And how come most developing countries lower their interesting to boost small scale which is the main back bone of economy? E.g china.

The Afonjas don't know that the CBN is trying to increase our dollar inflow through high interest rate just to lure investors into our economy.

Since we are an importing country, that seems the only way since we are oil dependent
