I'm not a bible scholar or know much bible verse and i may make bible reference without verses..

The question is 'is water baptism really necessary to fufil all righteousness?'..

There are great men in the bible that are righteous and didnt do baptism(e.g abraham, enoch was righteous that he didnt even die,job etc)..Peter also said that 'be baptize in the name of holyspirit...'

And jesus christ also did baptism b4 starting his ministry..

So the question are:do we need water baptism before we are save?..if i dont have water baptism,am i still a devoted christian?..if i dont have water baptism,we i still make heaven?..so many question to ask buh will stop there..

I'm sure all those men i mentioned up there are sure in heaven(and they didnt do baptism)...
Pls,i need answers..

1st of all, brotherman Enoch if ever lived & not all part of Jewish fairytale must have died like all other mortals. As for the water baptism, is the 1st initiatory rite introduced into Christiandom symbolizing renewal & beginning of a new chapter. It was the practice of brethrens in the Egyptian mystery schools almost 2000yrs b4 Christianity.
As for your so called heaven or hell with respect to baptism is just another fairytale.

Water baptism is an ancient practice long before Christianity that signifies rebirth. The Egyptians used the water from the nile to "purify" new born babies or a way to initiate new converts into secret cults. A way to be born into a new way of life. Christianity obviously adopted all these pagan ways of life, including " sun - day" worship of the Sun

Beloveth brotherman you are right. It predates Christianity. Jesus himself been a member of the Essene brotherhood, same with his baptizer John must have seen the symbolism of that & introduced it his ministry.

Maybe they were baptized as it was recorded in Leveticus that God directed Moses to baptize the people of Isreal, so it was in the practice of the people of God in the past also.

That was Old Testament, it wasn't necessary then as God himself speaks to those great men directly.
Remember in the same Old Testament, God introduced Circumcision for all male, which is for God's people; Blood sprinkling and atonement and other things for sanctification and purification.
Now baptism was introduced in the New Testament to abolish the old, and gain new life in Christ Jesus.
Baptism with Water and Holy Spirit is called new birth after you must have confessed Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior.
Remember, Nicodemus asked Jesus what to do to make the Kingdom of God, Jesus answered, you must be Born again. Which is only possible by baptism, and Jesus mentioned what is needed for the baptism, water and spirit.
And Jesus urged us to preach the gospel to the ends of the earth and baptising those that believe in the name of the Father, Son, Holy Spirit.
So if you have accepted Jesus as your Personal Lord and Savior, you must be baptized!
I rest my case!

I was in a church & decided to join their workforce. They askd us to go thru d baptism class, & @ the end of it, to baptize became an issue for me due to the conditions:

1. 24hr dry fasting prior to baptism

2. Deliverance session @ the night b4 d baptism

3. We were to be baptized in a river

Yes it is necessary for it to be done by water.. But in some occassions , the catholic church has other methods of baptism in case water is not present
acts 1 verse 5 says one can be baptize without water na

Important. Very important.
Every Christian should have water baptism because he / she is saved already. It is a public confession of one's salvation. It should be done ASAP after getting born again e. g. the Ethiopian eunuch and Cornelius household.

But if someone dies before getting water baptized he / she still goes to be with the Lord! For example the thief on the cross who got saved on the cross and never had the opportunity to have water baptism.

To answer to the question, let us find out how many people Jesus "water baptized"

Also, like someone else said, there are lots of non-christian cultural practices that have been incorporated into Christianity.

These practices were not acceptable to the Jews of that time because they recognized them as pagan. But Jesus was rebellious especially to the traditional Jewish ways and intentionally broke all those rules - hence his own baptism.

what about acts 1 verses 5 that said water baptism is not compulsory
Re: Is Water Baptism Really Important? by pee777(m): 12:21pm On Mar 26, 2017
Water Baptism relevance ended immediately after the day of Pentecost. The purpose is seen in Mathew 3:11 ‘I baptise you with water. This shows God that you are sorry. You are sorry about the wrong things that you have done. It shows him that you now want to obey his rules. But a person is coming soon. He is more important than I am. I am not at all good like he is. I am no good even to carry his shoes for him. He will *baptise you with the *Holy Spirit and he will *baptise you with fire.'
Just as the gospel was taken to the gentiles and the need for male circumcision was irrelevant as this was a Jewish commandment in identification as Gods chosen.

What qualifies you is the acceptance of Jesus and the baptisimal of the Holy Spirit as the helper that was promised us.

Baptism is a law of the jewish tradition, so it doesn't count but jesus did it just to fulfil all righteousness, I think it has its root from the red sea. it's the Baptism of the holy spirit that matters

The simplest answer to this question is found in the meaning of the word 'baptize.' It comes from a Greek word which means 'to submerge in water.' Therefore, baptism by sprinkling or by pouring is an oxymoron, something that is self-contradictory. Baptism by sprinkling would mean 'submerging someone in water by sprinkling water on them.' Baptism, by its inherent definition, must be an act of immersion in water

Baptism illustrates a believer's identification with Christ's death, burial, and resurrection. 'Or don't you know that all of us who were baptized into Christ Jesus were baptized into his death? We were therefore buried with him through baptism into death in order that, just as Christ was raised from the dead through the glory of the Father, we too may live a new life' (Romans 6:3-4). The action of being immersed in the water pictures dying and being buried with Christ. The action of coming out of the water illustrates Christ's resurrection. As a result, baptism by immersion is the only method of baptism which illustrates being buried with Christ and being raised with Him. Baptism by sprinkling and/or pouring came into practice as a result of the unbiblical practice of infant baptism.

Baptism is a picture of our leaving our old life and becoming a new creation (2 Corinthians 5:17). Baptism by immersion is the only mode that fully illustrates this radical change.
the question put out by the OP actually reads "is water baptism really important?" rather than 'difference between baptism by immersion and baptism by sprinkling' read to understand before you make a comment next time.

It is very very to not talk about anything spiritual that you do not have knowledge of.
And if you are asking, ask first from your pastor for one on one teaching. ensure you are asking to learn.

For me, for someone who have not fully got the discernment spirit, Nairaland is a very wrong place to start from.

becareful bro. Start with your pastor (if really you are a believer), i believe he can help you.

1. No where in the scriptures is it written that you need to fast to be baptised not to talk of 24 hours dry fast. The basic requirement for baptism is to be born again by accepting Jesus Christ into your heart. And being without sin up to the point of water baptism.

2. Deliverance session from what exactly? I doubt that doctrine. Not written anywhere in the scriptures.

3. Yes, you need to be baptised in a sizeable body of water of which river is one. You need a sizeable body of water to be able to comfortably dip in and out.

NB: Minimum recommended age of baptism is 12 years for the purpose of self-awareness and by which time it is believed you are old enough to know right from wrong.
