PetrePan: 1st of all, brotherman Enoch if ever lived & not all part of Jewish fairytale must have died like all other mortals. As for the water baptism, is the 1st initiatory rite introduced into Christiandom symbolizing renewal & beginning of a new chapter. It was the practice of brethrens in the Egyptian mystery schools almost 2000yrs b4 Christianity. As for your so called heaven or hell with respect to baptism is just another fairytale. |

ifenes: Beloveth brotherman you are right. It predates Christianity. Jesus himself been a member of the Essene brotherhood, same with his baptizer John must have seen the symbolism of that & introduced it his ministry. 1 Like |

PetrePan: Maybe they were baptized as it was recorded in Leveticus that God directed Moses to baptize the people of Isreal, so it was in the practice of the people of God in the past also. |

Re: Is Water Baptism Really Important? by Emmacho: 11:30am On Mar 26, 2017 |
PetrePan:That was Old Testament, it wasn't necessary then as God himself speaks to those great men directly. Remember in the same Old Testament, God introduced Circumcision for all male, which is for God's people; Blood sprinkling and atonement and other things for sanctification and purification. Now baptism was introduced in the New Testament to abolish the old, and gain new life in Christ Jesus. Baptism with Water and Holy Spirit is called new birth after you must have confessed Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior. Remember, Nicodemus asked Jesus what to do to make the Kingdom of God, Jesus answered, you must be Born again. Which is only possible by baptism, and Jesus mentioned what is needed for the baptism, water and spirit. And Jesus urged us to preach the gospel to the ends of the earth and baptising those that believe in the name of the Father, Son, Holy Spirit. So if you have accepted Jesus as your Personal Lord and Savior, you must be baptized! I rest my case! 2 Likes 1 Share |

Re: Is Water Baptism Really Important? by omojeesu(m): 12:07pm On Mar 26, 2017 |
PetrePan: Important. Very important. Every Christian should have water baptism because he / she is saved already. It is a public confession of one's salvation. It should be done ASAP after getting born again e. g. the Ethiopian eunuch and Cornelius household. But if someone dies before getting water baptized he / she still goes to be with the Lord! For example the thief on the cross who got saved on the cross and never had the opportunity to have water baptism. 1 Like 1 Share |

To answer to the question, let us find out how many people Jesus "water baptized" Also, like someone else said, there are lots of non-christian cultural practices that have been incorporated into Christianity. These practices were not acceptable to the Jews of that time because they recognized them as pagan. But Jesus was rebellious especially to the traditional Jewish ways and intentionally broke all those rules - hence his own baptism. |

Re: Is Water Baptism Really Important? by pee777(m): 12:21pm On Mar 26, 2017 |
Water Baptism relevance ended immediately after the day of Pentecost. The purpose is seen in Mathew 3:11 ‘I baptise you with water. This shows God that you are sorry. You are sorry about the wrong things that you have done. It shows him that you now want to obey his rules. But a person is coming soon. He is more important than I am. I am not at all good like he is. I am no good even to carry his shoes for him. He will *baptise you with the *Holy Spirit and he will *baptise you with fire.' Just as the gospel was taken to the gentiles and the need for male circumcision was irrelevant as this was a Jewish commandment in identification as Gods chosen. What qualifies you is the acceptance of Jesus and the baptisimal of the Holy Spirit as the helper that was promised us. 1 Like 1 Share |

Baptism is a law of the jewish tradition, so it doesn't count but jesus did it just to fulfil all righteousness, I think it has its root from the red sea. it's the Baptism of the holy spirit that matters |

PetrePan: It is very very to not talk about anything spiritual that you do not have knowledge of. And if you are asking, ask first from your pastor for one on one teaching. ensure you are asking to learn. For me, for someone who have not fully got the discernment spirit, Nairaland is a very wrong place to start from. becareful bro. Start with your pastor (if really you are a believer), i believe he can help you. |

ikorodureporta: 1. No where in the scriptures is it written that you need to fast to be baptised not to talk of 24 hours dry fast. The basic requirement for baptism is to be born again by accepting Jesus Christ into your heart. And being without sin up to the point of water baptism. 2. Deliverance session from what exactly? I doubt that doctrine. Not written anywhere in the scriptures. 3. Yes, you need to be baptised in a sizeable body of water of which river is one. You need a sizeable body of water to be able to comfortably dip in and out. NB: Minimum recommended age of baptism is 12 years for the purpose of self-awareness and by which time it is believed you are old enough to know right from wrong. 1 Like |
