Normal regular menses are a blessing and usually a sign of healthy female organs functioning properly. It matters not wheter the menstrual cycle, from the first day of bleeding of one menses or "period" to the first day of the next is 21,25,28,30, or 38 days etc. as long as the number of days of the cycle remains relatively constant plus or minus one or two days.

The duration of flow is also relatively constant-usually 3 to 4 , 4 to 5 , 5 to 6 , 6 to 7 days, with heavier flow at the onset, and lesser to a mere stain on the last day.The average cycle in the Average Nigerian Woman is 26 to 30 days and average flow 4 to 6 days, though variations from , as above noted , are by no means abnormal if regular.

The old popular African belief that menstruation is aperiodic release or purging of poisonous accumulations from a woman's body has been know now for many years to be untrue. In brief , menstruation is merely a periodic discarding of the endometrium (lining of the uterus) when a woman has not become pregnant.
