Thanks for your advise. Cochlear implant is meant for totally deaf patient. That wasn't my issue. I can hear only to a certain decibel fluctuated by tinnitus. Although, I had met people with positive result while using those aids. I guess u purchase yours when technology was not advance

as far as you're in the same universers as me, technology is only as advance as your account balance is.

i manage by closing or dimming my eyes to increase hearing concentration. i have considered hearing aids too and i found them to be very expensive just like you discovered.
siemens, philip and some renown brands of hearing aid are very good and safe. but others especially chineses brand is very dangerous as it can worsen your hearing condition. i will advice you to try to get a very good one if you can afford it. it will serve you well.

My ENT specialist at unilorin teaching hospital also recommend such, but the truth is, those hearing aids are not reliable and are very expensive and was also told u have to change those hearing aids battery every 3-6month and those battery cost about 50k or more. Some NGO's also give those hearing aids for free like MTN foundation and others, though i have apply for mine at MTN foundation am still yet to get it about a 1yr now. @op, I use a digital hearing aid and infect have been using one since 2008. It is indeed helpful for me (we all differ). But check that quoted price again. Better still order from amazon or if you have someone outside, say UK, ask the person to buy for you and then pay him.
Because of exchange rate, you need to make a budget of 100k or above. but definitely not what is quoted for you.

It was a bit difficult to get use to because I thought I could immediately start understanding people or t.v. But with time I learnt the limitations of aids and how to use it best. The key is knowing that its a tool to help you hear better but for effective communicating with people required lot of patience from friends and family

I have been living with sensoryneural hearing loss, with tinnitus, for over 12years now and I'm telling you, life hasn't been easy. I don't use a hearing aid, because it's practically useless in my case, neither do I hear anything, not even my own goddamn voice. I just try as much as I can to read lips and that's it. I'd advise you, if your case is severe, please consult other audiologists before you settle for an aid, otherwise, it will just be an unnecessary waste of money. May God give you strength. Am also passing through same illness presently.
After series of audiometry test at Federal Military Hospital,Yaba(very close to WAEC building),Jibowu,Yaba in Lagos,the owner of that medical centre,a nice woman recommended a pair of hearing aid at a cost 350k each about 5 years ago,I could only afford one for my right ear which is worse than left ear,it actually worked for me,but the doctor advised that I should get the second one to enjoy the full benefit.I am yet to get the second one.So,I advise that,you visit the,Army Audiomedical Centre and get a professional advice if only you can afford it anyway.But,I bet you is not really a good experience.When you imagine someone greeting you,but because you coundn't hear his/her voice and probably not facing him/her to read lips,the person feel ignored if not he/she is not aware of your problem.
It is not funny at all.Well,am managing mine as much as I can till I get the second one.Learn to manage it for now until you can afford quality hearing aids.

I have a condition where my hearing goes dim, like a door in my ear was closed. And I have to close my nose and pump air into my ear for it to open, sometimes it works and I can hear clear but it doesn't take long and I have to do it again.

I use hearing aida also. But about those sophisticated ones hmmm the problem is that if they spoil where will u repair it.I will advise u go to Ibadan its cheaper there that's where I got mine. Abuja is expensive. All those one of 15 k may not be good for profound hearing loss due to amplitude and clarity of sound

a good quality hearing aid won't do any more damage. Only incorrect use of hearing aid, wrong specification of type the type of hearing aid or substandard hearing aids that can cause more damage.
