That is the pathetic situation most Tailor apprentice find themselves in, particularly in southwestern states of the country and i think is time something drastic is done to curb the injustice against their trainees by Nigeria Union of Tailor maybe via legislation.

I got a similar freedom list from my younger sister boss yesterday, this is a woman that we agreed that all am going to do is to pay training fees, which i have paid in full.

What kind of list is that?
When they will tell them to enrol in a registered fashion school. Nigerians won't hear. They think road side tailoring school is the best. And at the end the same freedom students will enrol in another proper fashion school, for proper dressmaking training.

Enrol in a registered fashion school. They want to cut costs.. At the end, penny wise, pound foolish... Keep on going to road side mama sikira tailor shop.

Join Trendsviva haute fashion school, it's a registered fashion school and they are doing a scholarship program as we speak. That's where I and my cousin we learning part dressmaking program. He who has hears let Him. Or her hear.

Don't do the freedom celebration. Just use that money to set-up your own tailoring shop.

Can't you just set up your own tailoring shop after you feel you have learned enough? Would the woman prevent you from starting your own shop?

These are issues that should concern our honourable assembly men. It is a common practice in Yorubaland, I join others in condemning it. All these after the apprentice has served extra years after the expiration of the initial agreement. This is pure greed and wickedness.

I told her about opening a shop that they will never know about but she said that if they should know, they would come and raid her shop. Well, I didn't give her any money.

She can use her house.

I know another friend who decided to start a fashion design business with her elder sis after she lost her job in a bank. They rented a two bedroom flat and got two tailora on salary, each one in a specialised area of sewing (those that sew will understand); and they started business. They didbr even have a signboard outside, they just went on bbm (at that time) and showed pics of works they've done. Its their mainstay right now.

I am Yoruba, I've seen lists.... My opinion on this particular list remain unchanged... wink

You are Yoruba, does that make you an apprentice, or were you ever one?

Maka why? For this economy? .. The money for those things is enough to rent a small shop so what will stop me from moving on after i finish? Do i need a graduation? Only a mumu will do those things listed.

Nigerians and their backward Mentality. To free an apprentice, you should make them do lots of skillful works in that line of trade before giving them freedom.

Are u minding dem?

I run a center for learning sewing (6 months), electricity, cooking, hairdressing (all 3 months) and our apprentices pay only 2k per month.

Só this is outrageous.
