Home to more than 20 million people, Lagos is Nigeria’s biggest commercial city. Because of its commercial allure, it has over the years, become an “El dorado” of a sort as that is where most Nigerians looking for the proverbial golden fleece go and settle in to find it. It is often said that every Nigerian family has a representative in Lagos. Original home of the Aworis, it has become a melting point of all Nigerians from all walks of life.
Due to the high population density, housing has become a major problem as it is common to have 9 to 12 people cramp together in a single room. It is also an everyday sight to see hundreds of homeless people taking shelter under the numerous bridges that dotted the landscape.
Unscrupulous landlords have taken advantage of general problem to make life unbearable for the teeming population of shelter seekers in perpetually increasing house rents and stifling tenancy laws.
Lagosians in their creativity in every condition have coined a refrain in pidgin English “you never begin stay Lagos until you become landlord”.
Our media crew went around to interview some Lagosians what they think about the above assertions. Our media respondent; Chris Oyekwa, a trader from Isiekenesi in Ideato South Local Government of Imo State recounted his ordeals in the hands of landlords, how he lives day-to-day just to eat and pay the high rent for more than 20 years before he finally built his 3-bedroom bungalow around Okokomaiko area of Lagos.
Another respondent Ali Hassan from Yobe State also has horrible story from his time as a tenant for over 15 years until he built a home in Ikorodu, a suburb of Lagos to tell.
The third respondent, Owvokwe from Delta State registered his frustration with housing in Lagos since he was brought by his uncle in 2001. He told our correspondent that he is seriously praying and saving up to build his own house.

Please fellow Nairalanders, this blog project is a secondary task in a Business Real Estate Reality TV show and competition where #5 million and a home is up for grabs. The group with the highest views and comments wins. Please, help my ministry by reading other interesting posts and by commenting here: kaizencorps.wixsite.com/kaizencorp/blog
Thanks God bless
