Noe of the above----- she can move in whenever she wants as long as she is NOT a gold digger.

the thing is ladies need affirmation, so the idea of her just moving in might not really work.

Depends on who he is marrying. How young or old she is. If she's somebody who's never been married before, she would want to go all the way, traditional engagement, church wedding(your father is a widower so I suppose he's allowed to do it a second time) and a big after party or (2.).

If he's marrying a widow or divorcee who has kids of her own, then I would think (1.) simple introduction to lady's family and she moves in.
