So the minister or commissioner for health is not investigating this death.

Doctors/ Nurses can be investigated and their licenses withdrawn . Just get a good lawyer.

Also people must be prepared to have video evidence of these incidents. Lets speak out more so that things can improve.

If the doctor does not come to work and patients are waiting all day( make a video and post online) include time and doctor's name hospital's name etc.

Just few days after we all were hit with the news of Chiamaka's death during childbirth in a hospital in Lagos, another husband who just lost his wife, Mrs. Rita Uchebuego, during childbirth, is claiming that the doctors at the Federal Medical Center in Asaba murdered his wife who gave birth to twins before her death.

Here's the story of the man who became a widower, not up to 1 year of his marriage;

"MY STORY - By the husband (Mr. Uchebuego) of the deceased

On Monday the 6th of March, my wife who was pregnant went for anti natal at Federal Medical Center FMC Asaba, and the Doctor who she was assign to and who has earlier confirm my wife's Expected Date of Delivery (EDD) to be 19th March, 2017 discovered her blood pressure BP was a little above normal, then the doctor said she will be admitted so they can monitor her BP till the next day. When I came back from site, I drove to the hospital to pick my wife and she told me her doctor has said she will be admitted, I requested to see the doctor but to no avail, so she took me to the nurses who ask if I am the husband and I said yes,

They brought my wife anti natal file, took us to the pay point collected ten 10 thousand Naira from me as deposit fee and after she has paid she took us to the O and G ward were my wife was finally admitted. I called my in-law who was already in Asaba from Imo state for her first omukwor to came and stay with her daughter, but my wife objected that the hospital environment may not be conducive for the mother and that she will not be permitted to sleep inside the ward. So we stay with her till 9pm and left as the nurses were beginning to lock the doors.

On Tuesday 7th of March, i ask my inlaw to go and join my wife as I went to site very early. When I came back around 12noon, I rush to the hospital to check on my wife, I met my wife passing through a severe intense pain and her stomach was moving up and down and she was shouting I ask her what the problem was, and she said she was INDUCED.

I didn’t know what it means to be induced because this is our first pregnancy, but the agony my wife was going through was beyond normal so I requested to see the Doctor all effort was futile. I was very angry, why will they do this to my wife I ask, you told me they were admitting her for BP.

Nurses were complaining that I was disturbing the ward, they also said my wife will soon deliver. I had some survey plans to produce so I left to come back later, when I came back in the evening, my wife couldn’t stand up again from the hospital bed, the pains has increased, I insisted I was going to talk with her.

When she came out, she told me they INDUCED her the second time. The first INDUCTION failed and the doctor, Dr. Ojenuwa instructed she should be induced the second time. I was mad. I looked for the doctor but he was nowhere to be found. All these were done without my consent; I waited till 10pm if I could see the doctor but he never showed up so I left.

The next day Wednesday 8th of March, my inlaw called me to come immediately for my wife have been booked for emergency Cesarean Section, and that the doctor is requesting for an astral pint of blood, I quickly made calls to the laboratory department who helped made the blood available before I arrive the hospital. When I got there, my wife had already been prepared and place on top of a wheel bed. They asked me to sign; I read and signed, prayed for my wife with my pastor who prayed through the phone.

For more than 30minute, the nurses kept jesting and my wife was still in that pain, shouting on top of the wheel bed. I was worried, then I ask why the delay? No answer. I kept asking them until one man standing and talking with them got concerned and said who is woman? This woman’s issue is more critical and urgent than the person inside the theater. He then instructed that my wife should be moved into the theater while the person inside should be moved out as her case is not as serious as my wife, but the nurses refused. He continued saying that he will not leave a serious and urgent situation and start to work on an unserious one.

At that point, I notice the person talking is a doctor by name Dr. Longway, who is working under the supervision of a consultant named Dr. Maduakor who happens to be our private family doctor, Dr. Maduakor also knows the history of the pregnancy as we have also been visiting his private hospital from day one. When I got to know that Dr. Maduakor is the consultant to supervise the operation from the nurses, I was happy, I quickly called him to come that my wife is the person they were calling him for but he never came.

After 20 minutes I called him the second time, he never came. Though finally, Dr. Longway conducted the operation and it was very successful, I donated two pants of blood as we were instructed during anti natal orientations. After the surgery, my wife needed a little medical attention and support, just like every other woman in her condition, two or three pant of blood which I had earlier paid for, but was denied her by the wicked Nigeria Doctors and Nurses at Federal Medical Centre, Asaba. The doctor on duty said they were waiting for instructions from the higher consultant Dr. Maduakor after they have informed him of the situation.

The higher consultant happens to be my family doctor but was angry because we didn’t come to his private hospital for delivery. Yes, because I called him on two occasions to come help the situation but he never showed up. Therefore, the instructions never came and the junior doctors and nurses were watching my wife till she passed on.

Early morning on Thursday, 9th march my wife called me by 4.52am to come immediately so I can help her, when I got there, she was left alone as the wicked Nigeria doctors and nurses were all sitting carelessly watched her struggle with the oxygen that was fixed on her and calling for help because of her new babies .

Her mother was highly restricted from entering the ward according to FMC Asaba tradition. What is happening? I shouted, one useless nurse shouted back, are you not the husband? Go and pay for blood. My wife was shouting, heartbeat please come and help me with the oxygen she was trying to push into her nose. I was in the middle of different decision, please put blood, I pleaded, but they refuse that I should go and pay and bring receipt first. Quickly rush to pay within 7 to 10minus, only to come and met my wife lifeless……. So sad!

This is after she has delivered a twin; two beautiful girls the previous day. This is my present predicament. MY WIFE DID NOT DIE, MY WIFE WAS KILLED by some wicked and heartless humans who claim to be Doctors and nurses at O and G ward FMC Asaba after I have paid for everything that was needed. This is our 9th month of marriage; our wedding was on the 11th June, 2016."

So sad ur wife is late, buh there are lots of.lies in dis story. No medical doctor wuld nt want to attend to ur wife simply because u refused coming to his private hospital for delivery. Doctors value their licence more than any amount of money. U didnt tell d world hw ur wife,a witness refused blood transfusion which led to her death. Meanwhile its so sad d way u value ur work more than ur wife. Rily sad. Its more terrible d way u are ordering ur mother inlaw to take care of "her daughter".

I've always known medical personnels in Fed Med Centres and General hospitals to be predominantly heartless. I know how many people have died through their negligence. Reason I avoid them at all costs.

Poor woman, poor babies and poor husband. What an avoidable calamity.

Wait for all the quack technicians parading themselves as doctors jump on this thread to blame the system.

You will be better off going to Ghana to deliver than have any of those "glorified killers" touch you in Nigeria. It is sad that the vast majority of them believe in esprit d'corp in issues like this. Doctors in Nigeria? Na. Unless my dog is sick. Even then...

About 95% of them have no business in medicine. They got into medicine because their parents made the choice or they want to feed their egos. Talk is cheap. Their excuses loading in 3...2...1...

The Nigerian health sector is filled with problems just like a lot of sectors in Nigeria.

The anger of Nigerians is absolutely understandable.

But if you see how people die from Road accidents, how people die from infected water, how innocent people die in the hands of the Police or Army. How Politicians have starved Nigerians. The list can go on and on...

Are we really surprised that innocent people die in the hospitals?

The Nigerian system has a lot of problems. And all these problems are interconnected.

And until we start to demand accountability from all those in charge rather than celebrate mediocrity, nothing will change.

Really sorry for your loss but This is obviously half of the story.........
You told of the pain your wife went through before childbirth....this is normal for every mother.
You however conveniently omitted the part that she had given birth before the death a day before. Who was with her after giving birth cos someone has to stay with a new mother to attend to her various needs. What went wrong before the need for blood?
Thai is just whipping up sentiments after the death.
I've had friends that missed flights because their wife put to bed.
I've had friends working in banks that had to miss work because the wife delivered.
Who leaves his wife in the hospital just the following day after delivery of a twin to visit a Site?
Doctors and nurses are and can be callous atimes..........they have seen too many death and too many emergencies to realise that every patient feels that their own case is the worst and deserves to be seen first.
NB- all the history of not wanting to take her to the theatre is hogwash........There's always a rooster for theatre that is followed, you can jump protocol if they feel your case is worse as was obvious in his case.
There would hundreds of patients that needs attention in that hospital....you can't demand to see the doctor if he's unavailable. The doctor could be attending to another patient or in another surgery or plain eating while you were insisting you wanted to see them. I actually feel he wasn't around well enough for the delivery cos almost all the reviews prior to a surgery are done by not just one but several doctors and yet,,,,you still dint see anyone of them.

Nigeria Death Squads

1. Drunk, gun-wielding policemen at checkpoints.
2. Doctors in FMCs and Teaching hospitals.
3. Armed robbers.

An encounter with any one of these groups is death guaranteed.

so at that critical stage, he should be parading his wife for other hospitals, which might be even more clueless, i still maintain ....visit a good

His wife was not that critical on the first and second day. When he was denied access to see doctors. That man's inaction and absenteism killed her wife coupled with fmc wicked nurses and doctors actions

Even abroad women still die in labor. In Nigeria, if a woman dies, the health workers are trouble. If God says one will die, hospital won't save de person. Women give birth at road side, markets place, at home, and are gallant. Hospitals have their flaws jus like everywhere in Nigeria got flaws

Fake story

Your wife died because she refused blood transfusion (Jehovah Wickedness Folks)

Besides,a real Man doesn't make noise/feel bad/cry over his wife's death.

Nature and society makes it possible for him to marry any woman of his choice as soon as he wants.

So quit complaining and do the needful

Or are you not man enough?

Pre eclampsia is responsible for 40-60% of deaths in developing countries and post partum eclampsia is even worse and almost always leads to death even with intervention and here you are blaming doctors and nurses. Worse still she was having twins making it a far far terrible case than normal.I feel the doctors would have told you initially that they had a very bad case with which anything could happen.

Without even listening to the hospitals side of the story and from your account, you were negligent at some point. If you feel inclined, kindly sue the hospital instead of maligning them.

Nigerians are the most hateful and unhappy people on earth despite any prior study. Now I understand the dynamics of jungle justice and how it thrives even on the internet.

Exactly... this thread is revealing... there are a lot of sick people in Nigeria, mentally deranged and united by unexplainable hatred.
I understand his grief but the guy tells one side of the story that has a lot of holes and everybody starts beating the health staff to death on these pages, meanwhile... no one remembered that the same wicked hospital delivered 2 babies safely which took a team of docs in the theatre. If na to defend politicians who are the actual killers, them go full the thread. The other side of this story may shock you, something happened that this man is not divulging about the blood and he exaggerated several things to gain sympathy like the labour pains. The hospital is a busy place, you cant go to your site, come back and start demanding to see a doc who probably has several other emergencies or clinic to run.
I hope doctors are reading this thread... leave this country, its too late to salvage
