Usman Austin Okai is an embittered sectional youth leader whose main grouse with Governor Yahaya Bello is that he is not from the Igala-speaking area.

I don't think his wailing would have been critical and resounding like this if not for the demise of Alh. Abubakar Audu.

Moreover we've not heard the other side yet, so let y'all slow down on your wailing.

What if he was actually involved in criminal activities?

Being in the opposition shouldn't be an excuse to perpetuate crime.

UPDATE!!!

CONFIRMED: Okai is with SARS Lokoja. One ACP Kolo signed entry at SARS Abuja releasing him to the Police men who came from Lokoja. According to the Information we have, he was arrested based on report from Kogi Government.

It seems this was done without the CP's knowledge.

Please remain calm, we're working to get this sorted.

This is one reason why I don't believe in the idea of a youth party being mooted by some online commentators. Yahaya Bello is another young man who has been saddled with leadership responsibility and has failed abysmally.

How deep is your knowledge of the man's activities?

Once more being in the opposition shouldn't be used as a veneer for engaging in criminal activities.

Mr Austin Okai (blogger with Hope For Nigeria) was arrested this afternoon by anti-robbery squad in Abuja and transferred to SARS Lokoja.
ACP Kolo lead his illegal arrest and temporary detention at SARS Abuja before releasing him to the Police men who came from Lokoja.
According to the Information available to Hope For Nigeria , Mr Okai was arrested based on his constant online criticism of Kogi state Government.

Force Headquarters Abuja and Kogi state Police Commissioner claims zero knowledge of this arrest instructed by Gov Bello to cow this opponents.

I'm speaking from a personal knowledge of the guy in question.
His activities over the years has been about sectional interest,so don't be hasty to label me an ethnic apologist.

Governor Yahyah Bello need better slap from above and am sure God himself will land him one soon. You think everyone will keep shot and allow you to govern Kogi state as your parlour.

APC need to caution Yahyah, this is democracy and we have freedom to express ourselves. If you're pained with the fact Austin is saying, start doing the right thing.

APC order Yahyah to free Austin Okai.

Say no to unlawful detention.

ARREST OF AUSTIN OKAI: Impunity taken too far -Concerned Nigerians

We have received reports of the arrest & detention of Mr. Austin Okai, a well known critic of the administration of Governor Yahaya Bello of Kogi State, by officers of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) of the Nigerian Police Force.

2. Mr. Okai's arrest, detention & subsequent transfer to Lokoja, the Kogi State capital, has been confirmed by the Officer in Charge of SARS in Abuja. Mr. Okai was arrested by a SARS team led by ACP Kolo.

3. We condemn Mr. Okai's arrest & detention in its entirety. Mr. Okai's arrest is the latest chapter in a series of attempts to clampdown on free speech in Nigeria.

4. There are concerns over Mr. Okai's safety & wellbeing. A few weeks ago, he was attacked & physically assaulted by political thugs. This arrest shows a probable link between that assault & the current government of Kogi State.

5. We call for Mr. Okai's unconditional release & an end to the absurd persecution of real & perceived political enemies.

6. We also call for governments all over Nigeria to show greater respect & regard for the rights of the Nigerian people as enshrined in the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

7. God bless Nigeria.

Group Gives Kogi Gov 24Hrs To Release Austin Okai

Kogi Renaissance Group (KRG) has condemned the arrest and detention of Comrade Austin Okai, a renowned blogger and fierce critic of the state government on the orders of the governor, Alhaji Yahaya Bello.

The group, in a statement by its spokesman, Edward Obalemo also vowed to mobilise other civil society groups and affiliate organisations to make Kogi State ungovernable unless Comrade Okai was released in the next 24 hours.

For the KRG, the arrest of Comrade Okai was the height of intolerance and insensitivity on the part of Governor Bello, adding that it had become clear that the latter wants to rule Kogi by force.

"There are stories of illegal detention and harassment of opponents. There are also claims that the governor runs an illegal detention centre in government house, Lokoja. To go after Comrade Okai, whose only offence is speaking against the evils of the government, is the height of intolerance and insensitivity ", it noted.

KRG particularly condemned in strong terms, the gestapo manner the arrest was carried out, including the forceful movement of Comrade Okai from Abuja to Lokoja, pointing out that it reflects the desperation of an illegitimate administration trying to force itself on the people.

"It is a common fact that Governor Yahaya Bello was not the choice of the people. He is a creation of the leaders of his party, All Progressives Congress (APC) in Abuja. Yahaya Bello is an impostor and unknown to the law. So also is the supplementary election that brought him. Both were smuggled into the electoral process to give the APC victory. Any sane mind knows that such a devilish plot cannot withstand the rigours of judicial scrutiny in civilized climes. The threats and arrest of our people by this government that has not paid salaries in the last 16months reflects the mind set of the APC led Federal Government in spite of their pretentious anti-corruption and rule of law exterior. But let me restate that, whatever plans are being hatched, the people of Kogi cannot be deceived anymore; the rule of law cannot be said to exist in a regime in which those in power manipulate the state apparatuses to impudently and unabashedly rape our democracy And the gestapo arrest and forceful movement of Comrade Okai simply reflects the fact that he is desperate to force his illegitimate government on the people", it added.

The group advised Governor Bello and ruling APC government in Abuja to learn to tolerate opposing views, which it stated, are important milestones in a democratic setting.
