World acclaimed Nigerian novelist, nonfiction writer and short story writer, Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie is to lead team of scholars to Washington where a discuss boardering over Biafra will take central stage. The writer whose words on the the issues surrounding feminism has a global attention, would be the keynote speaker at a conference tagged: " Remembering Biafra", scheduled to hold at the The George Washington University in DC. George Washington University's “Remembering Biafra” conference will bring together scholars, activists, and humanitarians to examine the global impact of the Nigeria-Biafra War of 1967-70. Speakers will be analyzing the war in terms of its impact on US-Africa relations, its influence on the modern politics of humanitarianism, and the legacies of decolonization. To do justice to these issues raised alongside Adichie, are: Michael Aaronson, Douglas Anthony, Gloria Chuku, Anthonia Kalu, Chima Korieh, Cecelia Lynch, Brian McNeil, Chika Okeke-Agulu, Peter Redfield, Brad Simpson, Olufemi Vaughan; all professors of different fields. The event is scheduled to take place on Thursday, April 20 George Onyeibe, the National Coordinator of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), has said that nothing can stop the sit at home order that has been scheduled for Tuesday, May 30. Onyeibe made the statement on Tuesday, April 11, while speaking to newsmen in Owerri, alongside representatives of IPOB. He also alleged that the use of Sharia law to try their detained leader, Nnamdi Kanu, would not be accepted, adding that it was a ploy by the Federal government to “Islamize” the country. The IPOB chief said: "The right for self determination is bestowed on man by God as it is backed by the united nation constitution. Biafra has an agenda." In a similar vein, the IPOB has called on its members to honour all 'fallen heroes' who died during the 1967 civil war. The IPOB in a statement signed by its media and publicity secretary Powerful Emma said all those who died during war between 1967 and 1970 will be honour by the IPOB. Emma said: "The 30th of May 2017 sit at home and heroes remembrance day will be 50th year of the divine declaration of Biafra by our eternal leader Dim Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu who by the grace of God Almighty Chukwu Okike Abiama announced the coming and independent state of Biafra which we are still on today." The IPOB said 2017 remembrance for those who died during 1976 civil war will be an extra special one in its golden jubilee anniversary. https://www.naij.com/1100004-breaking-chimamanda-ngozi-adichie-11-professors-set-storm-washington-dc-biaf.html Cc lalasticlala Mynd44 5 Likes 1 Share

Interesting. Biafra may have more friends than she thinks. It is a question of organization and structure. I believe if the entire south east intelligensia ever get united for biafra, getting it should not be as difficult as getting palestine or catalonia. Nigeria is not a power, and i don't think the US owes her any favours. It would be a question of who offers the most control to the US and stability in the sub-region. A 20 year lease in the east for an AFRICOM drone base that the US has been long coveting to effectively police the gulf of guinea and a 15 year oil drilling monoploy for chevron and texaco would be a huge concession which would be worth it in the long run. 11 Likes 1 Share |

Even when the Brits ruled you and exported ur resources for 100 years, at the end, in 1960, they had built not one university in your country. Not one power plant. Not one expressway. What happened to all the trillions they made? It was only after they left, that Nigeria began developing education, infrastructure, etc. Now you want to make the same mistake of trusting the white man more than your own people. Rosskii:A serious nation will not remain a mere stooge for long. If you take yourself serious, the west will take you serious and make you a partner. It is as simple as that. If biafra hypothetically right off the block, begin to educate its people, reduce corruption to very low levels, and churn out brilliant human resources and globally competitive tech, the west will take her serious and partner. But when a stooge disrespects itself, embezzles her own wealth and plunge its own people into poverty and suffering, the west will treat the nation like a savage and enforce austerity economics on it. 7 Likes |

Rosskii:But india and Nigeria were in the same boat. Both brutally colonized by britain. India today is a military and technologically power. There are very few weapons in the US defence industry that india is not allowed to buy. They have access to the top range of western and eastern technologies. And the US takes them very seriously like a partner. Infact, the manufacturer of US warplanes(lockheed) has entered the bid to produce american F-16s fighter jets on indian soils by indian engineers for the indian airforce to aid in the developing of the nascent indian aerospce industry. That is what i forsee for biafra. A stooge that grew to become a partner because of hardwork and industry. 10 Likes 1 Share |

vantage001: Absolute Garbage showing deep geo-political naivety. Tell me something. Why has the west not ''partnered'' with Botswana, all these years? They tick all the right boxes - virtually corruption-free, blessed with huge diamond deposits, a stable, functional political system, a highly educated population, decent infrastructure, and throughout the 80s, 90s and early 2000s, Africa's fastest growing economy. So? What happened? Why did the west not ''partner'' with them to turn them into another Singapore or South Korea, by pouring investment funds in, and opening up western markets to Botswana manufactures without tariffs? Of course it never happened. Botswana throughout the last 30+ years, has sent countless trade and investment delegations abroad offering all sorts of concessions for ''partnership'', to no avail. They remain short of capital, and cannot move to the next level of becoming genuine industrial producers. UNTIL YOU PEOPLE UNDERSTAND THAT THE WEST LONG AGO decided that AFRICA was to be their source of raw materials and nothing else, you will keep losing your way. Until you understand that the west are not your ''friends and brothers'', and ''partners'', but are your RIVALS, and that you need to come together and work in unity as AFRICANS, in order to counter their machinations and schemes, you will keep losing your way. Go and study the HISTORY of western/African relations. It's been one based on economic exploitation. THEY do not intend to see that stop, as it has benefited them hugely. Why do you think they are involved in the assassination of African leaders? Like Thomas Sankara, Patrice Lumumba, Murtala Muhammed etc? Such progressive leaders are a threat to their 'established order' of African dependency. YOU need to understand the game. Because right now YOU, as Africans, are being played. You need to rid yourself of the notion that the blame for the west's behaviour lies on you. That if you were somehow 'better' - less corrupt, with better infrastructure etc etc, that the west will ''take you serious''. This shows a total lack of understanding of the impulses driving western hegemony. THEIR SUCCESS is almost directly tied to your having those ''problems''. So they will fight tooth and nail to ENTRENCH and EXACERBATE those problems in your societies. This is why they have historically supported African autocrats, dictators, and kleptocrats like Mobutu, Obiang, IBB and co. So if you cannot understand that their reasoning is wholly economic and strategy based, you will keep seeing yourself as their ''partner'' while they kick your backside at every turn. Wake up!!! 1 Like |

vantage001: DUDE, Indians are POORER THAN AFRICANS!!!! http://www.primepost.in/more-poor-in-india-than-africa/ They have a growing industrial sector, but poverty, illiteracy, and underdevelopment still affect hundreds of millions of Indians. The only reason the west ''respects'' India is simply because it is a huge country with a 1.3 billion population, and a single central govt, which represents a massive market. They can't afford to antagonize a govt that rules over 1.3 billion people. If India was like Africa - split into 50 'independent' nations, all the west would do is what they do in Africa. Pick and choose where to invest, and ignore, sabotage the others etc. So they have a very different strategic relationship with India. If Africa became a Single country like India, THAT would make a huge change. The west would be FORCED to ''respect'' Africa, because that would mean 1.2 billion people plus all the continent's resources, under a single govt. They could never afford to antagonize that govt, and would similarly concede to its demands for technology transfer, like they did with India. So yes, size bequeaths power. Biafra would be like Sierra Leone or Liberia, who also have natural resources, but are used as a playground for western corporate interests. Too small to matter. |
