Enyeama ruled out for the season

Vincent Enyeama has been ruled out for the rest of the season, according to the goalkeeper’s French club Lille.

Enyeama has been in great form this season, and talk of a return to international football has been making the rounds in the local media following his decision to hang up his gloves and concentrate on club football last year.

The 34-year old Enyeama was injured in Lille’s 0-2 defeat to Rennes at Roazhon Park on 15 April, with Mike Maignan taking his place in the 65th minute.

Speaking at a press conference on Wednesday ahead of Lille’s Ligue 1 clash with Montpellier at the weekend, interim manager of the club, Franck Passi explained that the Nigerian goalkeeper will undergo knee surgery that could rule him out for the rest of the season.

“Vincent Enyeama will be having surgery next week and he will not be able to play (again) until the end of the season.

“This is because the period for recovery will be for about three weeks or upwards.

“Enyeama’s knee is swollen so he has to go for a scan and from there we will know what the best form of treatment will be.

“But I don’t think he will play again this season,” he said.

Enyeama has played 32 league matches for Lille this season as opposed to the 35 appearances he made for Les Douges last term in Ligue 1.

Its a big blow for Nigeria because our top most reliable goalkeepers are out injured

Carl Ikeme and now Vincent Enyeama.....

we must declare a state of emergency to fish out a top Nigerian born keeper just any where in the world

Then we look inward to give our local league goalkeeper the chance to showcase themselves. Though many of them do perform well in the "green and white". Introducing them to international tournament may develop them. Typical example is Vincent Enyeama when he was in Enyimba FC then.

Get well soon Enyeama.

Solution lies in these two goalkeepers

1. Dele Alampasu - Cesarense Portugal

2. Emmanuel Daniel - Orlando Pirates South Africa.

Hopefully they will get enough playing time under their belt before end of season and rise up to the occasion to give the top goalkeepers a run for their money when they come back from injury!

Enyeama bowed out when the ovation was loud. If I were him, I would remain retired from Nigerian football.
The NFF would only plead with him, use him without pay and spit him out when its time to pay up.

Whatever happened to recruiting goalkeepers from the local leagues. Serious nations always have substitute players from local and foreign leagues.
Nigeria be calling retired players.

And when they refuse to show up due to unpleasant experiences with the NFF, some lazy ass will sit somewhere and call them unpatriotic. angry

Don't know why we making a fuss about his age. If he decides to be playing till he is fifty years if strength permits so be it. How about Buffon of Italy and Elhadari from Egypt are they not old if you want to judge with the standard you using as they are somewhere in their forties

Good.... these two names alongside Nwokolor, Osigwe and any other rising goalie are for the future.

But right now.... with an Afcon qualifiers vs south Africa and the WCQs double header vs Cameroun all coming soon.... it is Daniel Akpeyi we are stuck with to man goal for us.

Nope not alampasu.... Rohr won't give a debut to greenhorns on a competitive game.

It is Akepyi to the rescue even though he isnt reliable. Thing is he has kept goal in competitive matches for Nigeria of late. Alampasu hasn't even kept in a friendly.

Alampasu is the future but right now.... it is Akpeyi that will man goal in Enyeama's (assumming he said he would return) and Ikeme's absence.

Ninilowo:
Alampasu to the rescue.

What kind of question is this??

Enyeama was 19 in 2002 when he made his competitive debut for Nigeria at Korea-Japan WC.

Do the maths.... 19 in 2002... and now 15 yrs on.... he is 34 in 2017. Na wa for some people sef....
