The oil and gas resources abundant in Imo State would be harnessed in the New Year.
According to Chef Tony Chukwueke former  Managing Director , Department of Petroleum Resources  (DPR) who heads the Technical committee on the realization of the oil and gas programme of the state  the state is greatly endowed with gas resources which can be of much importance in changing the face of the economy in the state.
He stated that the state gas master-plan is an integral part of the Nation’s master-plan.  Chief Chukwueke who gave a presentation on the oil and gas potentials of the state at the 2010 Imo Stakeholders Forum explained that Imo state would  need commissioning of a number of oil fields to enable it achieve the Oak Refinery project.
He explained that if the federal government remains faithful to the National gas master-plan and the dredging of the River Niger, the Oak Refinery Project would be a success and uplift the living standards of the people.
He posited that the  projects slated to be realized between 2012 to 2014 would use integrate the upstream resources available to the state.
In another presentation, a South African agricultural outfit, Agro Nova showcased their proposal in the joint agricultural venture with the Imo state government.
He listed such crops that could  be produced in a commercial venture as Opland rice, Sorghun, Maize, Soyabeans, Coffee amongst others.
Explaining, the Commissioner for Agriculture, Chief Longers Anyanwu stated that the Imo state government has provided the enabling environment for commercial agriculture to thrive.
