its a pity that our leaders are myopic,We have Nigerians all over the world working in automobile company let them be invited and let some youths interested in Automobile be sponsored.in no time Nigeria will be self sustainable in automotive industry.let them try as much as possible to support those automobile companies that had fold up.e.g Peugeot company,Leyland @ Ibadan to mention but few irrespective of maybe its Govt or Private automobile industry,Govt should take it upon themselves becos Automobile industry is capital intensive.
when you seriously think of how far this nation would have gone if everything was right with the system

The 1st car/1st 4 WD car should be Autonov-1 which was built by late Professor Ayodele Awojobi in 1970.
It has the ability to run in both forward and backward direction(the 1st of its kind i.e. Ist 4 Wheel Drive)
He died before patenting the invention
You are wrong sir! The autonov was not an automobile invention really (at least not in the sense the OP meant). What the Nigerian engineer did was to built a transmission that can run in both forward and reverse gear (which was commendable); and he used a pre-existing automobile to test the transmission. The testbed was an abandoned LAYLAND jeep (really looks like the military Pinzgauer). The OP was correct, the IZU guy was the first.
