Kenule Beeson Saro-Wiwa (10 October 1941 – 10 November 1995), 54 years, was a Nigerian writter, television producer, environmental activist and winner of the Right Livelihood Award and the Goldman environmental prize.
He was the son of Jim Wiwa and Mrs Widu, and he hails from Bori and from the minor ogoni tribe located in Niger Delta area of Nigeria and brought up in a large supportive family with strong tribal links.

He was educated at Government College Umuahia and University of ibadan in the 1960s. He became a graduate assistant at the University of Nigeria, Nsukka and then an assistant lecturer at University of Lagos.

In the late 1960s, he was appointed administrator for Bonny, River State. He had spells at the Commissioner for works, land and transport, education and information, and home affairs.

In early 1980’s he turned to writing and in 1983 he published his first novel. His very first successful TV series, Basic and Company, ran from 1985 to 1990. His most highly respected work was Sozaboy. A satirical portrait of the corruption of Nigeria’s military junta.

Basi and company ran for 150-odd episodes and was Africa’s most watched soup opera with an audience of up to thirty million.
Ken Saro-Wiwa was an outspoken critic of the Nigeria government – he accuses them of genocide – and of the international oil companie, notably SHELL, which he holds responsible for the ecological destruction and terrible industrial pollution of his homelands. Yet, despite a brutal government campaign against the Ogoni, he always advocate peaceful and non violent protest, eventually Ken Saro-Wiwa was released as a result of intense international pressure, but in May 1994, he was arrested again in prison.

In May 1994, after the deaths of four moderate Ogoni elders, political activist and writer, Ken Saro-Wiwa, together with eight others , was arrested for their murder following a trial on 2 November 1995, he and his Co defendant were found guilty and sentenced to be hanged. Despite massive international publicity the executions were carried on 10 November.

At eleven thirty in the morning on 10 November 1995, he was hanged in a prison in Port Harcourt, Nigeria, on the orders of General Sani Abacha, the Military Leader of Nigeria as at then. He was fifty four years old and an innocent man.

Ken Saro-Wiwa (was) the bravest man I have known…. One of the last letters I received ended in this way. “Pin in good spirits…. There is no doubt but hopeful for the best, I think I have the moral victory. “You have, Ken. Rest In Peace. - William Boyd

Stfu and stop talking about things you don't know

Am sure you are just a little kid from the way you reason and expose your stupidity and immaturity

You need to go back to your history books

Ken Saro Wiwa chased shell from ogoniland and up till date no oil company have been able to go back there even after his death

He was murdered by an evil dictator against international and local outcry and he died a hero

Yet, he was devoured by the monsters he fed.
nailed on the cross he helped to make, hung on the gallows he carpentered.
Sabotuer, turned his back on his own, and paid the ultimate price just as any road side armed robber would have been executed.
