Since we quickly forget our History in these parts - A Channels Television news reporter Enenche Akogwu has lost his life in the Kano bomb blasts that took place a few hours ago this evening, January 20, 2012. According to Channels TV official website, Akogwu, 31 was said to have been shot by unknown gunmen suspected to be members of the Boko Haram sect, outside the Kano state government house while in the line of duty. He had just returned to Kano two days ago after spending sometime in Lagos. He is said to have missed his flight twice before switching airlines. Akogwu, who before his death covered the northern region uncovering breaking stories and events across the troubled northern region, is said to have been a ‘resourceful and fearless reporter’. ‘The management is deeply saddened by the death of their courageous reporter’, the statement read. He was the winner of Channels Television’s 2011 Chairman’s award and was honoured at the station’s end of the year celebration. Nigerians!!! Some of you mocking Naija photojournalist...yet I've never read on this forum from a single person praising a Naija photojournalist who get brutalized by polithiefcian security details..No Not one. Rather you condemn and insult them, taking pictures of corrupt policemen and women, soldiers brutality, SARS over handedness, etc and for what? "not realising this is Naija and power brokers are accepted by the people to do as they please". photojournalism is a very high risk career. Dying in the line of duty is a harsh reality unfortunately. |
