How is this poor governance?! No car was available to fix the issue (probably dealing with another emergency), is that so difficult to understand?! Stop comparing Africa to the west where such issues are dealt with on the spot.

Stop dancing naked in the market place.

Civilization started in Africa. Most important human skulls were found in africa.

Live wire fall everywhere, especially during heavy windy weather, but the difference is that other places deal with it faster.

But any wise parent would tell their kids not to play around d that fallen wire while waiting for repairs.... So sorry, but let the irresponsible parent take some of the blame too here

Kid, what the fvck are you saying? Did you read the tread before all this your comments? So it have to take the damn officials ages to come fix a live wire which everybody knows is dangerous to both old and young? How about the people who do not live in that vicinity that may as well be a victim of such neglect when they come visiting? These people should be called irresponsible too right? Excuse me but You're so fvcking dumb!! undecided undecided

Another negligence from nepa. They were suppose to be "special services" and always at alert.. if someone reports that there is an electric cable wire that fell on the road, there should be quick response , either switch off the entire light if you can'get to place at that time or look for a public transport to convey the staffs to the location..we should not blame the parents of the boy, rather blame it on poor governance. We pay our bills and they should act when called to do their job.

This is a community failure as well as Government failure. We all have realized that Nigeria is a failed nation. The Woman said in the video that they contacted the service provider over 7 hours before the incident. First ,they should take responsibility to barricade and provide warnings to ensure the area is protected till their arrival . Please don"t let us rely so much on government on issues that are highly critical which might leads to fatality.

I am trying very hard to understand ur point...but are not making any sense atall... u obviously don't know d meaning of an emergency and how it should be handled... if there was enough manpower and vehicles... emergencies would b treated as emergencies

Those workers should be fired. In an emergency situation like this the fools wasted time until an innocent 10 years old child was killed. Senseless people.

you cannot be in lagos and be passing judgement like a fool to the story at hand, maybe when you were small, you only played in a small compound all your life. but take a closer look at the surrounding of the picture, you would see grasses in the area the wire fell. the boy might have gone to pick a ball in the bush and just by touching the leaf (you would understand better if you were a science student) or direct stepping on the wire hidden in the bush might be possible.

you were so fast in blaming the parent or pointing out that they did not properly train their child but your memory is so limited so you forgot the useless electricity company that have been called and failed to come because no one grease their hand. a poor nation

See all these ignorants, lazy bunch of miserable people always quick to blame the gov on their miserable lives, instead of helping Their damn selves.

If live wire falls on the floor and you let your damn kids play around that live wire (while waiting for emergency) then you FAILED in your responsibilities as a parent. Furthermore, it is YOUR duty to put a sign there to warn any unsuspecting stranger about that danger.

If you expect the electric company to deal with "your" emergencies, while disregarding others ( that they may have at that time), then you people are rightly deluded......

And last but not least, you are the ones who voted this gov (or all previous ones) into power. So here is a clue: next election, I suggest you vote for that perfect gov who will turn Nigeria into the US, with his magic wand, in an instant.
ARRANT NONSENSE!!!

This is a high hazard case. The community or residents could have taken greater responsibility to ensure that the area is sealed off completely till repair is done.

I am a cousin to the mother of this child. This is a brief update on the death of the little boy.At about 6 am on Friday the 12th of May, power was restored to the area following the three hourly rationing by the BEDC. Immediately power was restored, residents of Omo Iyamu street said there was a spark on the electric pole which cut the cable. A call was made to one Mr. Osas, a BEDC official who said he would come and fix the cable. At about 7.30 am another resident who passed by the cut cable also placed a call to BEDC staff who said they were aware and would soon be there. By 9.30 am a Pastor on the street drove to their office to inform them and they responded that they were aware and are waiting for their team with vehicle. Power was cut off by 9.00 am and restored again by 12 noon without any proper action taken by BEDC.This ugly incident happen some minutes past 12pm and as seen in the video, the boy was taking to a mortuary as the parents of the child where not aware of his death as at the time of the report. The mother of the child was in the Hospital tending to her sick mom while the father of the child was at work............

Simple steps you should take when you have failed cables around :
1. Call the service provider immediately
2. Insist that the area be isolated from the national grid. That is call the (PHCN) control room and ask that your area be isolated
3. Make sure you prevent anyone from going towards the area the cables dropped. ( not just relations alone but also "innocent strangers"winkbecome a temporary town crier.
4. For the family of this poor innocent boy I expect them to take all necessary legal action to seek for compensation from the BEDC.

Following the incident, the matter was reported at the police station by the uncle to the deceased. The DPO sent 2 officers to go with him to the scene of the incidence and on getting there they made observations and invited eye witnesses for questioning. On getting to the station, they met some BEDC officials who came to report the incidence saying they need police officers to go with them to reconnect the cable as they were scared of mob attack and that they were only informed 30 mins ago. The DPO was so furious and then pointed at the uncle to the boy who accused the BEDC officials of making false statement as calls were were made severally to them during the early hours on the day without positive response. This left the BEDC officials short of words as one of the officials even made an escape attempt realizing that a complain had formally been lodged. He was then caught and ordered by the police back inside the station........

As at today, BEDC officials are yet to pay the deceased family a condolence visit as a sign of remonse. I have read a lot of awful comments and i begin to wonder what Nigeria is turning into. Now:

1. Not all parents were aware of the cut BEDC cable
2. If they had responded promptly my cousins son would still be alive.
3. Pray it doesnt happen to you
4. Pay for the soul of this innocent child.

Rest in Peace BoBo.....

A seven year old child was allegedly electrocuted today by an electricity cable at Omo-Iyamu street, off Country Home Motel road, off Sapele road, Benin City.

Residents lamented that the BEDC Electric cable fell in the neighbourhood and Officials Of BEDC were called to rectify the situation in order to prevent any "accident" of any kind but the officials didn't show up as the BEDC maintenance car was not available.

The slain boy, Stanley Bobo was said to have gone out to play when he stepped on the live wire, automatically killing him and burning part of his body. The unfortunate incident threw the entire residents of the area into grief.
