RT.HON. ALPHONSUS GERALD IRONA CALLS FOR FULL PARTICIPATION IN THE ON-GOING INEC CONTINUOUS VOTERS REGISTRATION

The former member of the House of Representative Rt. Hon. Engr. Alphonsus Gerald Irona who represented Ohaji/Egbema /Oguta/Oru-West Federal Constituency has called on all the members of the People Democratic Party (PDP) in the Federal Constituency who are now eligible to vote to come out and register in the on-going INEC continuous voters registration exercise going on in the Nation.

Rt. Hon. Irona made this call while speaking to Journalists in his Oguta residence in Imo State while interacting with People Democratic Party members who visited him.

Rt. Hon Gerald Irona who emphasized that it is only when an individual has his/her voter’s card that such person can have a say on who represents him/her at all the levels of governance.

Speaking further, the former federal lawmaker who used the opportunity to highlight on most of his achievements while he represented the federal constituency from 2011 to 2015 said he is yet to see serious infrastructural development attracted into the federal constituency since he left the House of Representative. He stated that while he represented the federal constituency numerous project where attracted by him which is still enjoyed now by his constituents.

Rt. Hon. Irona used the opportunity to call on youths, who are eighteen years of age, religious leaders, traditional rulers, women organizations to make it a point of duty to educate and enlighten their people on the need to make sure every eligible adult is a registered voter in the federal constituency. He remained the PDP supporters that the only way to effect a change in government is by being registered.

He called on all the organs of the People Democratic Party (PDP) at the local government and ward levels to make sure they mobilized their members for the continuous voters registration.

Reacting to questions from PDP members on the distance between the local government headquarters and some area, Hon. Irona said that INEC should do the needful.

Hon. Irona pleaded with INEC to see what could be done to make the registration easier for the people who are very willing to participate in the continuous voters registration exercise by bringing the registration points closer to the people.

He cited example with the case of Ohaji/Egbema LGA where it will take people some hours from their polling units to the local government headquarters to be registered, likewise other local government areas in the federal constituency.
