Even the soccer leaders of our Nation are liars. Yesterday it was injury, today its court

Obafemi Martins left the Super Eagles camp after Tuesday’s defeat to Egypt, but only to make a court appearance before a judge in England.
Martins was reported to have gone to Germany to see his surgeon following complaints of persistent pain in his shin as a result of surgery last month.

But Super Eagles Media Officer Idah Peterside, who was quoted in the report, said in an SMS to KickOffNigeria.com on Wednesday night that the player travelled to keep his court appearance.

“Obafemi wrote a letter to the coach asking for permission to go to London for his court date that is coming up tomorrow and that he will be back on the night of the 15th to meet up the game on Saturday and he was permitted,” Peterside’s text message read.

Martins is scheduled to appear before a High Court judge to defend himself on charges of owing £300 000 to NVA management.

The case was first heard on November 19 last year, when NVA told Judge Richard Seymour QC that the former Newcastle star was ‘constantly overdrawn’, despite earning £75 000 a week.

Martins has disputed the claims, but missed an earlier court appearance in order to help his new club Wolfsburg play in the Uefa Champions League.

The hearing was rescheduled for January 14, and Martins risked having judgement given against him if he failed to appear before the judge a second time.

Jeez, So the court could not give him a new date ?
So the NFF could not ask the court to postpone ?

Are we really worthy to be called a sovereign Nation ?

Even if Obafemi has a case to answer in court,he must be included in the team
because courtesy of Amodu, inclusion of Martins in the team list plus his
injury is his birthright.

What do u expect when ur local coach knows nothing about fitness,
player pschy and mind body conditions?

The Nigeria team's media officer Peterside Idah refuted claims that the Wolfsburg striker has a shin injury.

"He spoke to us before leaving - he has a genuine case to answer and he will be back tomorrow," Idah told BBC Sport.

"Obafemi is in London, he has a case in court with his agent."

Martins has been taken to court by his former representative Chris Nathaniel who claims the striker owes him commission for deals he worked on for the player.

"The coach was aware but there was some debate over the actual date. Before he left he told us he only had to show himself in court as he didn't want to be in contempt of court.

"Last time the case came up he wasn't there and he didn't want the judge to throw him in jail if he doesn't show up or declare him wanted."

Idah also went on to refute rumours of a bust up within the Nigeria team.

"The talk of a bust up are just not true, we've had a series of meetings with the coach and the players to sort out a lot of things - but no bust up whatsoever," he said.
