I know the foundation exam costs 190Pounds but r there any other fees to be paid before one can sit the exam? i believe this will help u . also attached is the form that state the cost implication.

@bebe4u,
i think what u need to do is to group your collegues and get a PMP/trainer to come and organise the training for your group. some time last year some of my friends in warri contacted me on their interested to take the pmp exam. i did link them up with cpms and the organisation has to send a team of trainers to warri for 3 weekends. you can contact me on ezeuloho@yahoo.com. for more information i am certified and serve as a facilitator. thou for now i am not into it full time because of my work pressure.

mystical,
to the best of my knowledge project management for now has know area of specialisation. it has nine knowledge area ( risk, cost, human resource,procurement,time, scope,communication,intergration and quality management).
the pmp exam is an online exam and as such can be taken any time of the year in approved prometric centres. as for the institute you can attend any one advertise on the website so long as the trainers are pmp certified. you can confirm a trainer status by login on to www.pmi.org.
you need 35 hours training to take the exam and as such your triaing duration should not be less than 35hours. a three weekend training of 12hours/weekend is sufficient.

i do hope this help u can also see my post on https://www.nairaland.com/nigeria/topic-148.96.html#msg1474679 for more on this topic.
thanks

Re: Starting Project Management Training/certification by knzguru(m): 9:36pm On Nov 13, 2007
A leading project management training institute is organising a series of FREE project management seminars from November for 500 participants only. All participants must have had experience working on projects for their organisations. Working in the operations department of your organisation is a plus.

Participants stand the a chance to win a scholarship and discounts on the Project Management Training required to become a PMP (Project Management Professional) or CAPM (Certified Assistant Project Manager).

Each seminar has a maximum of 50 participants for a total of 10 classes. Only one of these classes (50 participants) would be open to nairalanders and i suppose it is scheduled for Saturday,24th of November 2007.

Prospective participants would be screened as this seminar is not for everyone. Send an email to knzguru@yahoo.com for more details

Hi guys,
Just so you'd know Prince2 is a very vast methodology, its very rich and detailed, infact Prince is one of the foundation of Uk's Best Practice that is adapted from IT into every and eny field and industry, I am a certified Prince2 Practiotioner, honestly it wasnt easy getting the status at one sitting but i did the training and i worked at it. But its paying off!
Hope someone finds this helpful.

cheers.
Re: Starting Project Management Training/certification by Abbihh: 5:05pm On Dec 03, 2007
Hi everyone!

Good to know that folks back home are gearing up towards becoming equipped as their counterparts in the western world.

I am thrilled - well done guys!

I have been in project management for a while now and I will advice anyone serious about taking their career to the next level to do so.

I chose Prince 2 over PMI because it can be easily deployed and in quite practical. I also have a good knowledge of PMI but would advice starters back home to run with Prince 2 first. Besides, applications from the UK are readily deployed in 9ja and it would not be fair to sell a methodology in 9ja just for the sales purpose of it.

Again it is up to you guys! If you have access to the internet, do the research before investing in the programmes! Again, DO NOT just go through the training like everyone did during the MSCE rush in the 90s. In whatsoever means, get the practical aspect of Project Management as well. You will be surprised to know that going to the cybercafe to browse itself is a project! Everything we do can be likened to a project - Getting admission to study at the Uni, Planning to get a certification for Project Management, Renting a flat or even simply planing a birthday party are typical examples of Projects that needed to be managed to be successful.

I understand the sudden rush to the gold mine but sometimes over here in the UK, employers only want you to have the 'knowledge' of Prince 2 and you will be given a job - as long as you can learn on the job and prove you have the right grey matter up there!

I will be honest - I got my first Project Management job without the certification and I am doing well today with the certification.

Bottomline folks - if you are interested in becoming a Project Manager - go in there with your heart, mind and a plan to get some bucks pilling up in your bank account not just to get another paper or accreditation to your name. Afterall, a lot of MSCEs out there in 9ja do not know jack about a network :-)

All the very best and come along and join the train to success :-)

Re: Starting Project Management Training/certification by Kashif(m): 2:49pm On Jan 31, 2008
@Abbihh,

Abeg o, browsing the internet is not a project, neither is renting a flat a project in the strict sense of it. Many things we call 'projects' colloquially are not projects.

In the professional realm, those unique, start and stop engagements we pursue might only pass for a project when it lasts at least, for about 3 months. There must be a plan which should be approved/authorised and resources committed. wink

Cheers. smiley

Hi, We organize prep course for those aspiring for the PMP/CAPM certification, but the training is not limited to those writing the PMP/CAPM exam. One could attend just to gain Project Management knowledge. We run the training for 4 weekend days every month. The cost is 70k and that covers lunch and training materials. Also, you'll get a free PMP prep book! You can email or call me; conuorah@abrpm.com , 07034056829 for further inquires. Our address is 2, Akin-Osiyemi Street, off Allen Avenue, Ikeja, Lagos.

Re: Starting Project Management Training/certification by Rare(m): 4:19pm On Aug 31, 2008
I'm always taken aback when people come to open forums and ask "how much", "where", and "importance" of some of these certifications. All these FAQs are easily obtained on officially websites.
PMI = www.pmi.org
PRINCE2 = www.prince2.org.uk

Everything you need to know about the certifications are there: history, curriculum, cost, path etc.

What people should inquire here are issues such as: acceptability, career prospects, earnings, and which to start with (PMI versus PRINCE2, a global hot topic!!!!!)

Also, having partaken in project management environments should be a huge bonus. I am not certified, but I can relate to and surely feel very comfortable scrutinising the details of these certification

I've gathered all info about these two certification competing standards online with so many available "google" sources. If I had to patronise any so-called training institutes, I'd be able to weigh official online costs, ability for self-study, against what these institutes claim to offer; then make my decision how to go about getting certified. I think this is sensible and logically.

This is strictly FYI: Just as Rare mentioned, every info u need concerning PMI, Prince2/PMP/CAPM can be gleaned online. I started my search online 4 yrs ago and now i'm a member of the PMI, a member of PMI Lagos chapter and currently studying towards a CAPM cert. All online and not thru an agent whatsoever!

Do the same,I advice anyone and dont leave ur info sources in the hands of d numerous training centers in naija now. For example, if u do ur due dilligence u will discover dat there are only 3 training institutes recognized by PMI in naija. I wouldn't give u their names though;u must find dat out d way i did: www.pmi.org

D way i see it,if anyone's truly interested in project management, he'll take d first step by googling it!

all d best,,,,
