Desyner:
OP has his points but there were exceptions imagine the idea of industrial estates as mapped out by Awolowo was followed up. That would have created a platform for separation of industries or production hubs from the largely consumption based populace of today. Some of them meant well and had good visions.
The OP is right intoto and no single one of them score 1% mark on uniting the Nation. Read:

Nigeria’s Problems Started With Awo’s Introduction Of Tribal Politics — Unongo

[Contd]..So the three principal participants rejected co-federalism, rejected unionism and adopted Awolowo’s federalism, and we became the Federal Republic of Nigeria later on. Within that context, you can choose to evaluate Nigeria and ignore whatever is happening in this country now. I think Nigeria is in the process of evolving as a nation-state stressing residual powers in the regions.
On where the problem started
The problem is that after Azikiwe scored a fantastic victory in the Western House as a member of the House and his party was to form the government, the man who brought federalism as a form of governance reverted to the game we are playing in Nigeria today, which is tribalism, quite different from federalism. I just want people not to be too angry with themselves.
Awolowo felt, as the strongman of the Yoruba, Azikiwe should not have won the election in his place, and he could not countenance an Igbo man coming to be the premier or the first minister or prime minister of a predominantly Yoruba place. Night came, and when day broke, Zik discovered his majority had collapsed. The Yoruba abandoned him and went to a strange person they did not know ideologically, that is Awolowo, on the basis of tribe.

Awo, among our heros' past, was a Professional Economist and an Advocate.
Zik wasn't. He was just a Philosopher.
Ahmadu Bello was a cattle Rearer Tuareg from Futa Jalon.
Tafawa Balewa, Hausa, was a Rope weaver.
So Awo was the best of the three principal participants with Political Hindsight to build a Nation from the grassroot. What you think is Tribalism is just building your Mansion from the Foundation.
Awo foresaw in Azikwe what Afonja didn't foresee in Bello before the later occupied Ilorin till today.
The Yorubas now know that Awo is Oduduwa's incarnate.
You want to build a Nigerian Nation? Return Local Governments to their Traditional Rulers. Let them earn their living. Let them organise to elect their Governors. Let them keep Home Security their own ways. Each state will contribute uniformly to FG to run Foreign Office, Military and Treaties.
Buratai should relocate the Soldiers to the outskirts around the Country and never in the hinterland.

Lord Lugard gave us One Nigeria. That was a done deal.
Awo, Zik & Bello, Bello, Bello gave us Independence. That was a done deal.
Gowon, Murtala, Obasanjo & IBB gave us 36 separateable States, the autonomy of which, Chief Richard Akinjide won a Presidential Court Case for Alhaji Shehu Shagari. That was a done deal.
The Sokoto Caliphate plus all The NorthWest States and Ilorin in Kwara, carelessly fell to Arabs & Fulani Tuaregs Immigrants. That was a done deal to the Disgrace of the Traditional system the Invaders took over from.
Awo, with Insight, foresight and astute hindsight prevented the invasion of Yoruba land many times by Biafran Adventurists. That was a done deal plus plus to the resounding exhaultation of Awo, an incarnate son of Oduduwa.
We are just asking this NASS to consolidate the AUTONOMY of our 36 grassroot States and follow the initiative of Chief Richard Akinjide to make their AUTONOMY a done deal. Let the NASS do this now and their NAMES will be written in GOLD.
