Conflicting reports over Amodu's sack

THERE were conflicting reports yesterday over the fate of Super Eagles Coach, Shuaibu Amodu, following the below par performance of his team at the on-going African Nations Cup.

The Guardian learnt from reliable sources in the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) that NFF President, Sani Lulu Abdullahi, was given an executive order to sack Amodu and replace him with a foreign coach immediately.

A source said that when the NFF board met with the Presidential Task Force (PTF) on Saturday night, the PTF told the federation that there was a directive from the Vice Presidency to sack Amodu immediately after the game against Benin Republic.

Lulu resisted as usual, but was told that further intransigence would be construed as direct contravention of a presidential order.

The Guardian gathered that the NFF lawyers have started going through Amodu's contract to ensure amicable settlement of the terms of termination, just as a committee was set up to look at what it would cost to hire a new coach.

However, when contacted in Lubango yesterday, NFF technical committee chairman, Taiwo Ogunjobi, said he was unaware of any such directive to sack Amodu, adding that the coach and his crew were assured of retaining their jobs if the Super Eagles won the Nations Cup.
