Every powerful country on earth is based on strong ideals and a culture, this is what brings the people together to work towards a mutual cause. When large parts of a country do no work together, then you cannot say that there is one nation, a nation is a family, a nation is the understanding that everyone either came from the same source and/or have come together to reach the same goal.

IPOB is obviously the spearhead of the revitalised neo-Biafra movement and are at the forefront of shaping the proposed Biafra and presenting this proposal to the world. There are many things they've gotten wrong, and many people in the core areas of what would be Biafra (the SE) have doubts on the ability of IPOB to lead such a movement, one of the main things they haven't got right is maintaining a clear message as to what Biafra actually is. Nobody knows where Biafra starts or ends, there are a myriad of maps and state and town lists of the proposed Biafra that say different things regarding where Biafra actually is, the most ridiculous maps, spurred on by Nnamdi Kanu's equally ridiculous proclamation that Biafra consists of all the southern Nigerian ethnic groups whose names begin with 'I' and who tie double wrapper, has included areas as far north as Kogi and Benue and as far west as Itsekiriland and Warri. To make this short, Biafra is primarily an Igbo agitation, the main hotspots for the agitation are all Igbo, the main people you see online are all Igbo, but the IPOB-led movement in their quest to follow a fantasy of recreating the old East with random surrounding groups, completely reject to acknowledge that this is in fact an Igbo agitation. The anti-Igbo or even anti-East sentiments they complain about even can be found among other groups of the old East. This just makes it look like Biafra is an Igbo land and resource grab which just legitimises the idea of the threat of Igbo domination.

There are several independence movements across the world, none of them are ambiguous like this IPOB-led Biafra movement, they are mainly centred on a nationality or a cultural group who already live in a distinct region of the country, for example Catalonia is inhabited by the Catalans and Catalonia is already an autonomous region of Spain whose borders are formed already. Tibet is also an autonomous region of China, the countries broken from Yugoslavia were federal units and for the most part have held their borders from then. On the other hand, look at a country Broken up by broad parameters, South Sudan.

Ignoring the fact that the Igbo are on their own is silly. With an Igbo country you do not have to step on anyones toes, you already have a nation, Nigeria is already split by LGA which are roughly ethnic units, so the SE plus Igbo LGA's outside of the SE are easily distinguished. All the energy invested in pretending Warri is part of Biafra could have been put into unifying Igbo land or even Igbo-speaking people (which includes those at the coast), because Igbo as a nation isn't even solidly together outside of the SE, let alone a fantasy Biafra, you could even completely have one language and national holidays, festivals, etc, without stepping on other toes. There is also the power of clearly stating that the secession is for a distinct people, this is why the world understood Biafra as Igbo then and now even though there are several other ethnic groups back then and proposed now in Biafra, it is because the world understands the need for a distinct nation to have its own autonomy, not for a distinct nation to be begging other distinct nations to play baby sitter.

The truth you have said in all entirety. The igbo group have seen a major setback in the quest for biafra due to the fact that they try as much as possible to drag everyone along. The lackadaisical attitude from the other ethnic groups have shown that the more enthusiastic igbos should chase their aspirations alone while they spend other times building bridges with igboid groups which would have yielded alot of good fruits.

The agitation for Biafra, no matter how bad you think it is, is a good thing because it will look into the intricate problems bedeviling the igbo tribe and sort to give a lasting solution to it. I have been diplomatic enough to ask other people to join in the struggle but since they have seen themselves as enemies to the free state of biafra, then I conclude now that the agitation should be between igbos and their igboid brothers.

We look forward to build bridges, take our time to raise a developmental fund that will cater for the incoming country. We wish well meaning igbos to get ready and reach out to their brothers and sisters that the time has come for us to forge our part and follow it with tenacity, so that will can achieve the canaan, the Lord has arranged for us.

IPOB are jokers and this isn't the first time am saying this. Republic of Alaigbo or Biafra or whatever name you call it should be for Ndigbo alone (SE,SS,NC). Any other non-Igboid group such as the Efiks/Ibibio that may choose to join in the future, can be granted entrance after we may have left this contraption. But IPOB are so daft not to see it that way.
Well, no need overflogging a dead horse! However, I see a new pan-Igbo group emerging in the future that can pursue a true Igbo aspiration, like uniting Igbo groups in the SE,SS,NC under one banner and give us a true Igbo republic that we all desire.

The main scenario is if the movement is based on Igbo ethnicity, the map is already there, the only issue you will have is from Igbo groups who may not want to be part of a separation or ones who would claim to not be Igbo, that scenario will be similar to suicide for the groups because if they stay behind in Nigeria they will be extremely marginalised, especially by other eastern groups, they will fall from the cover of the biggest ethnic group in Nigeria, to an inconsequential "minority", therefore if there was an Igbo movement all Igbo groups including those on the fringe in Kogi and Edo will have no choice but to join an Igbo separation, or they will demand to after experiencing the severe marginalisation that will follow.

Well said bro, perfectionist mentality never starts anything.

All thanks to IPOB for even daring to start, irrespective of their perceived flaws. Nothing is perfect under the sun hence we all are inclined to improvement.

Suffice it to say that Nigeria is perfect after 100 years of existence?

Ezeagu, you are an old timer here.

I must confess, initially when you started this your Igbo only Biafra, I was against it.

Looking back now, I see how naive I was. Efforts and time that could have been utilized in
spearheading this Igbo only Biafra , dissipated in wild goose Chase.

You have always been right on this.

Any Igbo man or group at this moment in time that is still thinking or projecting a multi ethnic Biafra need their heads examined.

Biafra as a necessity must become an Igbo only project, or it fails!

That was why some were always looking for how the 'southeast' can maximise it's interests even if places like Ikwere (Port Harcourt) don't want to follow. The 'Imo channel' thread was an example of that. The time used in weeding out who is and isn't Biafra, which honestly is very open unlike an ethnic/national identity, could be spent in unifying not even Igbo people, but Igbo speaking people, for example Opobo isn't Ijaw proper but the Ijaw were smart enough to make the link via the Ibani thing even though their monarch is openly Igbo-centric, Itsekiri isn't Yoruba proper but it looks like in the event of an ethnic spit of Nigeria they are heading with the Yoruba because of cultural unity (they're definitely not going with the Ijaw) which the Yoruba have worked on.

I think Igboland being the focal point of the old East and the spirit of Biafra has been a detriment to Igbo ethnic consciousness. I've made threads before about 'eastern unity' but it's clear that it's not something that's reciprocated unless it involves the Igbo population bending over backwards, stuff the other 'big two' never do, so it's better to be solo even if the others want to begrudgingly join the movement. Many Igbo people believe this movement is a single ethnic thing anyway.

This is a post from from last year after Mark Zuckerberg visited Nigeria:

I do not know of any prospering nation today whose most comfortable and most wealthy citizens, in a time of no war, genocide, or great suffering, are almost all completely based outside of their native lands like that of the Igbo. A simple observation of Nigeria reveals that the majority of the wealth in Nigeria are based in two cities, Lagos and Abuja, with Kano, Port Harcourt and even Ibadan being secondary cities. Yet, the Igbo are some of the most 'comfortable' people in Nigeria but they have absolutely nothing to show for it, but what does that actually mean? In Igbo culture, if a man in particular does not secure a homestead in their fathers land, they may as well be homeless according to Igbo society, this is why despite the fact that thousands of mansions are built in Igboland every year, they are left empty most of the time, because these builders either live abroad or in Lagos or Abuja. Despite building mansions, in a wider sense of the general economy of their homelands, the Igbo people have not secured their homesteads because the mansion building is but superficial, the bulk of their wealth is tied up in places outside of Igboland, particularly the commercial capital of Nigeria, Lagos.

This last month and a few days alone we've seen some humiliations which may very easily pass by the very unaware Igbo populace, one of them being the destruction of Igbo businesses in Lagos, the threatening of the Igbo dominated technology district Computer Village in Lagos, and the visit of Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg, these three points are connected. The Igbo have not planted their seeds wisely and they have gone with an approach where in there is a free space then they will fill it even in places that have proven to be hostile in the past. There is no special advantage to being based in Lagos apart from the port, but there are two ports in (read more...)

If Biafra is to come, it must be IGBOs first. It is China first, Germany first, Japan, Korea, Isreal, etc. Any other tribe can align for mutual economic/trade development.

Allowing non_Igbos, especially from the very beginning, would engender unnecessary agitation/discontent which Nigeria would certainly exploit to çause problems

Let's not leave Nigeria, and create a...Nigeria_like Shithole.
