What's your source, please? Nice list. In the past, I would have liked to beat all of those software companies. I'm proud to say I once had the opportunity to chat with Mr. John Obaro of Systemspecs (second company in the list) about what it takes for a developer to succeed in the Nigerian software business. 1 Like |

The easiest way to make it big is To initially work solo. Develop softwares with no ready alternative (do your research well) and then sell the source codes to multiple companies. I sold a hospital software i developed to 3 private hospitals ealier in d yr for 150K each 1 Like |

c0dec: so what did mr. obaro say? He said that there's it takes much more than just zeal and intelligence to succeed, so I should go back to OAU-Ife, then come to Systemspecs for internship and Youth service to learn how it's really done. (he was right, but fortunately I'm now in the less challenging field of webmastering where my background as a software developer happens to be useful) |

Nice list. But where are these products if I may ask? Do they program from scratch or just repackage someone else's products? Use uses these softwares that generates all the money stated? Apart from banks that concentrate on about 2 or 3 major softwares I am yet to see a specific industry where software is in high demand. I need to learn more, so anyone with more information on these questions should please help me out. 1 Like |

There are untapped resources here in nigeria believe me.... Give me two or three years you would add my company to the top of that list. Software is a big thing its use is so diverse that there is no limit to its use. Expert Edge is a good company but i think they mainly resell .... Take Finacle used by most banks including UBA (STB), First Bank. It was indian produced and is being resold here. As a just graduated student I made income in school programming for people. Programming skills is important but there are some other thing we as programmers need to learn (The only secret I would share here) . . . . we should spend a 6months to 1year learning it. Seun, your site is fine. I have never had so much fun from a site in one day. Which advise did that number 2 man in the list share with you ? |

There is a study by Prof. Abimbola Soriyan et al. titled A Profile of Nigeria's Software Industry(PDF). It should be good reading for anyone interested. A typical software company (in Nigeria) had between 11 and 50 customers (the average was 36 though a few firms involved with package installation had several thousand). There was a strong concentration among these customers. Almost all were private sector, with 84% drawn from the service sector (transportation, financial services, IT and other business services), 4% from the infrastructural sector (mining, oil, construction, electricity, gas, water supply, etc), 4% from manufacturing (production of food, textiles, machinery, etc), 1% from agriculture, and the remainder drawn from other sectors. There was a surprising lack of government/public sector organisations as customers (reflected above in the limited number of firms found in Abuja, where federal ministries and several other public sector organisations are headquartered). |

Only ETRANZACT AND SYSTEMSPECS I CAN TESTIFY THAT THEY WROTE THE SOFTWARES THEY HAVE FROM GROUND-UP IN NIGERIA BY NIGERIANS BECAUSE I KNOW THEM PERSONALLY. The rest, all "buy and customize" people. You guys should watch out for ETRANZACT I HEARD THEY ARE GOING PLACES. |
