A former Green Eagles defender, Bright Omokaro, is convinced the Super Eagles will make it to the Nations Cup final in Angola if coach Shaibu Amodu decides to field the players that beat the Mambas of Mozambique in their last Group C match on Wednesday.

Nigeria beat Mozambique 3-0 to place second in the group with six points and advanced to the quarterfinals to meet Zambia on Monday.

Omokaro told our correspondent on the telephone on Thursday that he believed the players that did the job for Nigeria were capable of beating any opponent in the competition.

He said, ”I was impressed with the way they showed their commitment in the match. The coach made a good decision with the selection on Wednesday and I would advise him to feature the same set in the subsequent matches.

”If a particular team has won a match for you convincingly for you, you don‘t change it for the next match. What the coach needs to do is to look for weaknesses and try to strengthen them before the players march out again.

“I’ll always praise for Osaze Odemwingie. He is one player that has given Nigeria the edge in the competition.

”Danny Shittu also played well in the game. This goes to show that they are gradually becoming a team we all wanted. They can only improve with every match if the coach features the best players.”

Omokaro warned against Amodu’s sacking, saying it would be a big error on the part of the Nigeria Football Federation.

”The knew Amodu could do it, that was the reason they hired him in the first place,” Omokaro said.

“If they knew they were going to change him, they should not have bothered him with the Nations Cup assignment. It is too late at this time to hire another coach for the team before the World Cup.”
