I wish I could find a female friend like my best male friend. This guy has other disgusting traits, but still, I find him irresistible.

Whenever we are happy the most, we use expletives or abusive words against each other, and we would laugh for hours. We have invented certain funny, abusive words that anyone in my culture finds highly patronizing.

This is how it started: I'm about 7 years older than him; normally, age mates befriend each others, but ours is not so. He so much trusts me that he thought if he uses a funny abusive words for me, I would just laugh it off. Today, we would travel to meet other just because we want to laugh; nothing more.

If he sees me at a distance first time in 2 months, he may say 'see his cheek like the hindquarters of a starving opossum.' That opossum is a rat that uses foul odor to ward off predators.

I believe if a male and a female have this type of a relationship, it will last.

He said those things in Yoruba language, and I interpreted it. I don't know if Adichi ever made the sentence you made bold up there, and I can swear that I've never seen it used by anyone before.

Besides, if you grow up together from primary school days to the University, you will know what I mean.
