There is nothing illegal in using pidgin English, a number of radio and TV stations broadcast some of their programs in pidgin including news. What you wanted to say is that it should be our lingual franca. That however, isn't acceptable to some people especially in the south western part of this country where pidgin is seen as the language of the illiterate and semi-illiterate people.

'ask' is pronounced: /ɑ:s/ before a consonant ('ask them') without a /k/ sound. Ask them to do it. /ɑ:sk/ before a vowel ('ask if') with a /k/ sound. Ask if they'll do it. /ɑ:s/ before a consonant ('asked them') without a /k/ or a /t/ sound. We asked them to do it. /ɑ:st/ before a vowel ('asked if') without a /k/ sound .

You only got 3, 6, 7, 8 correct, despite the fact that you don't know how to transcribe. You were describing the sounds.

1) you made ma-She-ti sound like ma-She-teh.
2) K isn't silent in the word 'ask' in any version of English.
4) /lai-bri/ is also correct in British English. You are wrong to say it's wrong.
5) the snack gala is different from the event gala.
9) en-ji-near is even the more common pronunciation both in American and British English.

You should always check your dictionary before posting stuff like this. There isn't only one correct way to pronounce a word.
He is wrong to say number 7 is wrong. That is American pronunciation he described. He got so many wrong.

Constructive argument. I love the way you tackled this piece. I need not object anymore, you've done it all. It's unfortunate that a lot of people amend their ways or grammar without verification. This made front page? Please what are the moderators moderating *no offence, truth is bitter* Op, better stop putting "Road diversion" leading people astray.
