Nigerians were few years ago mandated to register all GSM SIM cards or have them blocked. It was a very aggressive move even up till now.

The reason according to the NCC is to have a database of GSM users in the country for easy identification incase of crimes especially kidnapping.

Years after the registration exercise, nothing has changed.

Evans the arrested kidnapper confessed to having 11 different GSM lines to conduct his business. 11 different lines yet authorities could not track him down since 2013.

Why is it that nothing ever works in Nigeria?

I don't think it has helped in fighting crime because crime rate keep increasing day by day. Beside no criminal has been tracked through their Sim card(s).

Everything in Nigeria is initial gra gra, no follow up they only make noise about it.

It only works for the poor, never for the rich, Evans doesn't need to go to gsm office to register, their staff will just register the sims and send it across for a fat gratification from Evans and other rich men

It's not and it's not going to help curbing any substantial crime in the country. Reason being. Any serious crime that will necessitate the need for investigation through sim registration would always has connection with authority people. Also, the exercise is not even working. Many people have registered their Sims like twice yet their profiles ain't correspond with their Sims.

I will say it hasn't, but in a functional society its supposed to.
Imagine going to the police station who are in the position to help solve this sim related crimes and they will be telling u to pay very high amount, and they won't even put in much effort, before u know it u will just get tired of following up
