Hello.. Please i need the reviews of all CURRENT and not prospective students at cyprus international university.. I already know about the school's accreditation... I just want to hear first hand experience from people currently there...

* please how is the educational standard ... I've seen some people saying its worse than that of Nigeria... I've seen others saying that the worst university in cyprus is better than the best university in Nigeria... Please i need your honest opinion... How is their teaching... Research... Equipment etc especially in regards to engineering?

* what's the cost of an off camp accommodation near the university?

* I've heard there are hardly any jobs... But how possible is it to get a 100% scholarship on tuition by your second year?

Thanks in advance

Hi, I am not a current student but I am a person who used to work there. Unfortunately.
Because:
1. People who say that the level of education is lower than in Nigeria are right. This is not only the CIU but most of the Universities there, excluding METU and EMU. Students struggle a lot with the lectures that should be in English but are mostly in Turkish for the benefit of Turkish speaking students. Research is almost non-existing as teachers have to teach 20+ per week and there is no external funding for research. Teachers - most are very nice and committed people but I have heard a first hand experience of a student from abroad who came to visit and during just one lecture on mechanical engineering, he had to correct the lecturer twice with his equations. Yet... exams.... what a joke. They have the multiple choice test.... I have never heard of anything like that at the European or American universities.
2. This one is tricky. It's not TOO expensive, going from between 200 to 400 Euro per month but chances of finding a reliable landlord is next to none. Let me tell you. North Cyprus or TRNC is a non-existing country. When you come there you have virtually no legal protection.
3. There aren't any jobs. Most of the jobs there are related to tourism in season but you are competing with over 50,000 international students and Turkish students and you have to have some command of Turkish to get them. And they are very low paid. 100% tuition waver automatically binds you to the all-inclusive package including food (not great) and accommodation (very bad) on campus for a year. It is not that anybody is doing international students any favors. They will find the way to their money back regardless. Plus there are hidden fees so make sure you ask about these.

TRNC as I mentioned in a non-existing country and it carries its repercussions. You will not have an access to the EU side of the Island with your Nigerian passport. Also, the 3 pillars of economy of TRNC are: universities, casinos and brothels which really isn't the greatest combination in the world, especially for international students. TRNC is also politically linked to Turkey, so you have to know what you are getting into.

In any case, reconsider. Really. When something looks too good to be true, it usually is. If you have some money to spend for your international degree, find a well established institution in Europe. If you are a good student then many countries such as the Netherlands or Germany will take you with open arms and you will end up paying less in the end.

Hello there,
I'm a current Master student from Ekiti State and this is my third semester in the school.

--To help you understand the difference between our universities in Nigeria and Cyprus International University (CIU), I'll just list the following parameters and then you can make an informed decision for yourself.

*There are no strikes for sure
*Student-Lecturer interactions are at the best levels
*Lecturers DO NOT say I'll fail you because of personal or attitudinal issues.
*The school has purchased 3 state of the art real-time Information Systems to facilitate administrative and academic life of a student.
*Library is equipped with fast computers
*School has purchased access to several top-rated journals and publishing sites for scholarly research (IEEE for example helps me a lot)
*In my department(Computer Engineering), we can boast of 17 ultra-modern Computer labs; of which the MAC lab tops it all
*I cannot ever forget the joy of being taught by Professors who are beacons of the field in all of Europe. Most of them are the ones who designed and built European Network framework.

+Related to work, I cannot say everyone is working, but decent jobs are available.
+Students are allowed to work to the legal limit of 20 hours per week.
+If you have the skill and personality they require, getting a job here isn't much of a hustle.
+I along with about 71 other Nigerians are employed in the school

-Accommodation of campus costs like £100 - £150 to get a single room in a 3-bedroom apartment

Scholarships are available (Largely for undergraduates) if they achieve a CGPA above 3.5 (75%), 3.65 (100%)
This only leaves a registration fee of €302

Overall, the Island is a secure and conducive environment and fosters good education.
I personally wouldn't hesitate to recommend anyone to Cyprus International University and Cyprus as a whole.

Thank you very much for your contribution @ SamAsante.. I really appreciate.. Although I've heard from countless people that jobs are a no go area due to many factors especially when you want to support yourself.... My main aim is to study.. . I'd like to know more about the scholarships

Hello, I am a current student at Cyprus International University, Pursuing a Bachelor's degree in Information Technologies. I am in my second year.

I came in February 2016.
I did not face any trouble with finding information about registration and the necessary arrangements because the school provided tour guides to show me around, answer questions about the University and frankly that was very helpful. The tour guides welcomed me at the airport, to temporal rooms as they made the necessary arrangements for my accommodation. They also showed me the offices for Registration and Accounting.

Another requirement towards registration for courses is that you must have good grades in English because ALL lessons will be conducted in English. If not you are required to take English preparation school.

I have great academic achievement so far, largely due to the easy access to my instructors. I have taken part in many projects that the University helps fund, support and publish if necessary.

I was initially impressed with the health system every time I wanted to see the doctor because my tuition fees include Health Insurance.

My very first semester I was interested in getting a job and finding a way to reduce my fees even further. During the summer break right after my first semester, I applied for a job in the dormitory management. I got the job as Residence Assistant for the dormitory I live in. The job has really helped me by reducing my accommodation fees by a great amount.

Jobs on and off University Campus aren't impossible to get. Most of my lady friends get restaurant jobs as waitresses and so on, others find themselves in various fields such as Construction, Hotel Management, Network providers, Accounting, Teaching etc.

Now I am looking forward to furthering my studies in England with one of the university's partnering institutions.
