OBASANJO IS A PAPER WEIGHT?

Event on the political scene seem to be taking a dramatic twist since the former president called the shot that the incumbent should “follow the Path of Honour and Morality”. The voice of those calling on Yaradua to behave as a statesman is swelling by the day. It was as if they were all waiting for the general to bear his mind on the political development especial as it affects the presidency.

The long list keeps increasing as the following have also follow suit for the call that Yaradua to immediately handover in the sprit of national unity and take care of his failing health. They include.
1. The 41 eminent Nigerians which incidentally are members of the PDP
2. The Senate
3. The former leaders headed by Gen. Gowon
4. 200 Reps have also signal their intention to wave the Yaradua Must Resign Card
5. The International Community are also concern about Nigeria largely because of yaradua who is holding on to power despite his failing health. But their concern was voiced after the man they respect so much spoke meaning charity begins at home.
6. Ken Nnemani had a press conference today and demanded for immediate removal of the president so that he can return to the warm embrace of his family members.
7. Arewa Consultative Forum is also not left behind in the call for Yaradua to follow the honourale path of history.
8. Some governors also spoke openly on the same issue especially those from the northern block.

Furthermore, it look as if they were all waiting for the fearless general to speak his mind and immediately he spoke many of them started queuing behind him. It was when the indomitable lion of Ota broke the silence that ‘Yardua Doctors’ suddenly realize that the man is fit to return to the country and continue as our leader. The BBC interview: The president seems not to be well enough considering the way he sounded. I also believe that returning to Nigeria look not to be a good idea as at the time of the interview and was never on the card.

From an objective point of view, I will not want us to dwell too much on the rationale behind the call by Obj. It might be in the best interest of the nation or not because some people in certain quarters have question his sincerity. Let us assume he is nationalistic in respect to his timely remark.

With these developments, I put it across to fellow members on the forum: IS OBASANJO REALLY A PAPER WEIGHT IN THE PRESENT POLITICAL EQUATION AND DISPENSATION as claimed by some of his antagonist in the ruling party and the opposition alike? Can we say Yaradua fear Obj to the extent of wanting to risk his life because of weightless seemly threat or CARELESS REMARK from “An Ex-President”?

Please be objective frank and polite in your contributions.

There are several things that I can accuse Obasanjo of, justifiably, but being a paper weight is definitely not one of them. Heck, the whole of the reactionary wing of the Northern political establishment, such as there might be, are hinging their opposition to Jonathan on his being an Obasanjo loyalist!!!

The amount of noise they are making over Obasanjo's advice to Yar'Adua suggests that they know more about the man than Southerners do. I for one believe Obasanjo to be a man of few words and PLENTY of action.

The man is no paper weight o! Babangida was sent to Sudan to negotiate peace, and he failed. Obasanjo was sent to Congo, and within a matter of months, the war was over, with pictures of Obasanjo dancing with the rebel leader flooding the media throughout the negotiation period.

Paper weight ke More like Super Heavy Weight. Just check the effect of his few words on the whole of Nigeria!!

Take it or leave it, like it or hate it, as ugly as obj- baba iyabo is, I do not know any Nigerian that is as popular international wise as Obj, or that command the respect of the international community as Obj.

^^^^ you guys are hitting the right spot. How many of the present crop of 'Nigerian leader' command the enormous weight Baba Iyabo carry at the international scene. many of them are just home based players that have not been schooled properly either for the betterment of naija or the world at large

Because Obj installed Yaradua, it was wise for the whole world to wait for his reaction before doing anything. Otherwise, they put their interest in jeopardy.

In the political equation/permutation of this country BABA is no. 1. Its only people who are politically myopic that will call OBJ paperweight hes surely HEAVYWEIGHT. Has any nigerian president dead or alive command much influence, respect and acceptance? This man na GENERAL though hes not a saint and may be crude at times but he surely understands naija politics!

It is a simple math, they all found leadership and sense in the position of obj.

Secondly, the former leaders' decision to support the stepping down idea is because of the privileged information they have about the president's health. So, it will be wise of them to stand by the right position that will save our nation from the imminent crisis

This is not a matter of who installed who but moral burden. Obj may be wrong in several lights but on this his words so far has gathered a lot of storm and it is not short of anything but the good of us all.

Secondly, what is their interest if not for the collective growth and development of our nation. So, no interest is in jeopardy if others have spoken earlier and obj refuse to say the truth as it should be told but thank God the fearless and fiery talking old man has hit the nail on the head then we can say Obj should get lost. Now those (pro-yaradua PDP members) that do not support him are running for soft landing to save face and retain their political might which i doubt in case of eventuality
