@ onuwaje
I thought number 1 is OKAN in Itsekiri?
Has it been changed now to MEENE?

The offshore oilfields off the coast of
Ugborodo [otherwise called Escravos]
are known as okan, meji, meta, meren
oilfields and are operated by Chevron
since the 1960's. This was indicated in the
Atlas of Nigeria we used in schools in the late
1970s.

You have a nice thread here. grin

Matse Uwatse is from Omadino

She said this on NigeriaInfo Radio in
Victoria Island in 2013
while presenting a live program.

She might be your direct cousin I guess.

Take charge! grin

Bini itself has Yoruba influence. They worship Okun (whom was the first wife of oduduwa that was later deified, a common practise in the Yoruba land, I.e osun, oba, osa, oya, are all women deified by naming a river or stream or ocean after each of them). I think they also worship esu, who also was a Yoruba man back then. I stand to be corrected.

Almost all of Bini Gods are of Ilaje and Ife origin, from Olokun to Osun to Ogun to Ayilala. They also have Ifa (called Iha)
Only the supreme God - Osanobua is native

This is why I don't really regard oduduwa as the primogenitor of the Yoruba race. According to some history, ugbo (or any town that starts with igbo in yoruba) and was founded by Obatala when he was angry at the fact that oduduwa was crowned over some elders, the likes of him, obaluaye and so on. He left ile ife with his pple and founded ugbo. I think that submission is from Prof Odia Ofeimun

Ugbo and Mahin were founded by Obamakin(brother of Obatala) lineage

The major reason why most ppl disagree with naming the country Oduduwa republic is because he is not d founder of the Yoruba race. A more suitable name would be accepted. Mind u some yorubas are not direct descendants of Oduduwa.

It doesn't matter if he is a direct ancestor or not. In yoruba culture a king is the father of the people

In fact I have recently been informed that "Owa" (the title of many eastern yoruba kings) means Father... I don't know how true but we also see how "attah" means father in Igala (a people of very close common ancestry with Yoruba). Even though the attahs are of jukun origin

Oduduwa is the father figure of all Yoruba, a revolutionary leader, a unifier, King of the source. Most towns and cities in yorubaland are founded by his sons or Princes who trace their lineage to his sons.
Even itsekiri cannot deny his significance, from their Ijebu and Bini heritage they possess a connection to the man oduduwa even more than groups like Awori and Okun.

This is very similar to Orisagbebemi: "Orisa (God) gbo (has heard) ebe mi (my plea)" in core Yoruba language. Interesting. ..
