Some Nigerians would come to trash this one now and call it substandard. Appreciate your country for once

[quote author=quiverfull post=58342599]Indeed this is a good development. The soldiers have always been exposed without frag jackets...

Method of employment determines how vehicles are designed.

This one is designed as a Light Strike Vehicle, or a Rapid Response Vehicle/Recon vehicle. Hence the build is adequate for it's role.

Here is a similar vehicle used by Russian Special Forces.

Notice the similarities?
we can raise d bar, can't we?cos once u take out d driver then theres no longer rapid response or recon to carry out

They were imported.

They only did minor welding modifications to the original Go Kart.

ChangeIsCostant:
The Nigerian Army yesterday inaugurated locally fabricated Infantry Patrol Vehicles (IPV) that would enhance troops operations across the country. The Minister of Defence, Mansur Dan-Ali, inaugurated the vehicles and also performed the groundbreaking ceremony for a new army cantonment known as Muhammadu Buhari Cantonment at Giri, on Airport, Abuja.

The Chief of Army of Staff, Lt.-Gen. Tukur Buratai explained that the vehicles were locally designed and fabricated by personnel of the Nigerian Army after extension research.

Buratai said that the platform would further serve as force motivation, as efforts were being stepped up to clear remnants of Boko Haram terrorists in the Northeast, noting that the vehicles had already been deployed to the region.

According to him, the vehicles are one of the platforms used for firepower demonstration during the 2017 Nigerian Army Small Arms Championship (NASAC) earlier held at the Sambisa Forest in Borno State.

you are right, but the fact that it is been used by russia dosen't make it safe, what if they were sighted first by the enemy, they can be gun down at any angle, atleast a little covering for the driver and his side man, the guy at the rear is safe but the design is cool and i love this development. God bless NA

Excellent strides by the N.A. Since they have the plans and designs, next step is tender and invite bids for any suitable manufacturer to mass produce. We have a military assembly company in Lagos that does armoured trucks. They may be interested in mass producing this. Innosons is also currently producing light military vehicles. They may be interested in mass producing this and selling. DICON is also there. There is a market across Africa for this kind of military hardware. We can open up nd commercialise Nigeria's defence sector with milestones like this.

It is exposed because Buratai and all those pot bellied Generals siphoning funds under the guise of fighting an endless BH insurgency will not ride on it, the soldiers who will use it are disposable.

the protection of the driver depends on the effectiveness of the man mounting the AA on the vehicle who is protected by a shield from light fire like that of AK47 and FN riffle etc

You have intelligently said it all and diffused ignorant opinions. Some would have started abusing Nigeria for harbouring people with such warped engineering designs.

Not all military automobile completely shield occupants - It's a deliberate design for convenience.

Nice one Nigeria Military

They are not designed to be built or used with armour. You use the vehicle for roles were it's advantages are maximized.

It's advantages are;

- It is air transportable, this means that it is so light, the Nigerian army can simply sling it under a Nigerian Air Force helicopter and take to anywhere operations are to take place against any enemy.

- Firepower, for such a small vehicle, you can see the amount of firepower it can bring to bear on the enemy. A 12.7mm Heavy Machine Gun, and a 7.62mm Light Machine Gun

- It is an All Terrain Vehicle, it can be used in all the terrains, very important advantage. The enemy cannot hide.

- Speed, it is a very fast vehicle both on and off-road

- Thermal cameras, you can see cameras visible in the vehicle, this means for night raids, commandos can sneak up on the enemy and let hell lose, without having to turn on vehicle headlamps.

- Situational awareness, this means since the vehicle is open, the soldiers are constantly aware of their surroundings and movements around the area, unlike in a vehicle with armour.

The vehicles brings so much advantages, as such no armour is required. You can see the soldiers are all wearing bulletproof vests, that's all the armour they would need.

The design is very okay, although we could refine our metallurgy skills quite further. This is my answer to a similar question earlier posed. I used Russia because it is easier for others who might not know to see that these type of vehicles are used around the world.

I think these tyres should be lifted up little! i.e. There should be a bigger distance btw the car and the ground. In case this car has no option than to drive on rocky or dessert or flooded area!

Offence and defence comes with an expense. Like the name depicts "PATROL" . It's not a combat mobile.

Hi Henry240, nice input. I'm really enjoying your thread https://www.nairaland.com/1962290/african-militaries-strictly-discussions-thread. It's really an eye-opener. Well done.

I don't regret not joining the army though wink grin wink.
