Radio presenter, partner arraigned for N718,000 fraud

A popular radio presenter, Mr Akinkunmi Alabi, and the Chairman, Dan Ayo Travel Bureau, Mr. Olugbenga Oludele, have been arraigned before an Osogbo Magistrate's Court for allegedly colluding to swindle two members of the public of N718,000.

The police had brought Alabi and Oludele to court on a five-count charge and alleged that obtained N294,000k from one Ayodele Shamusudeen, under a false pretence of being the principal agent of Liverpool College of Management Science, London.

The accused were also said to have obtained N424,000 under false pretence from one Folasade Omigbona, on the pretext that the money would be used to apply for British visa.

The said sum of money, was to secure a visa and an admission for Shamusudeen in the foreign institution.

The third of the five-count charge said Alabi and Oludele stole N294,000 from Shamusudeen.

According to the police, the offence is contrary to Section 390 of the Criminal Code, Cap 34; volume: II, Laws of Osun State of Nigeria, 2003.

Lawyer to the accused, Mr. S A Obafemi and Mr. I A Oluwasegun, urged the court to grant bail to the suspects.

Lawyer to the police, Mr. John Idoko opposed the bail application.

But the defence lawyer filed an affidavit of urgency for an abridgement of date after Magistrate Adebayo Ajala adjourned the case till January 29, 2010.

As a result of the affidavit of urgency, the case was mentioned on January 27, 2010 when the defence lawyer told the court that the money in question had been paid and that case settled amicably
