Deola Sagoe, founder of Deola is the leading lady of African haute couture fashion from Ondo State in Nigeria. Deola has been at the cutting edge of high fashion since 1989 and became the first black woman to present a collection at AltaRoma, Rome’s celebrated fashion week, back in 2004. Her globally appealing style has earned her an enviable clientèle that ranges from Africa's first ladies, to society girls like Lydia Hearst, top model Alek Wek, and famous personalities such as Oprah Winfrey and Will Smith.

Deola, a mother of three, studied at the University of Miami and University of Lagos and earned a Masters in Finance and Management. She was appointed Nigeria's representative to the United Nations World Food Program 'Catwalk the World: Fashion for Food' with the goal of raising money towards halving the number of hungry people in the world, particularly children, by 2015. Deola frequently exhibits her couture collection at Cape Town Fashion Week and has been an invited guest of New York Fashion Week in the past.

Recently CNBC Africa‘s Didi Akinyelure sat down with Reni Folawiyo – CEO & Founder of luxury lifestyle store ALARA, dedicated to promoting contemporary art, fashion, cuisine and more in Lagos.

In the interview Reni shares her vision for the store set in the heart of Victoria Island, Lagos. She talks on the unique concept behind the store’s intricate exhibit-style architecture designed by world-acclaimed architect David Adjaye; it’s ethos of carrying modern luxury in Africa around the globe and more.

Education
Adenowo studied Architecture from the age of 14 at the Obafemi Awolowo University, graduating with a Bsc (Hons) in Architecture and the coveted faculty prize in 1988. She subsequently obtained the first distinction in the Msc. Architecture (an all A average) in the history of the University.

Entrepreneurship and Career
Adenowo also ran an oil and gas firm, Advantage Energy, and runs a property management firm, Advantage Energy. She worked with Towry Coker and Associates and with Femi Majekodunmi Associates (where she designed the Federal Ministry of Finance in Abuja at the age of 23).

Adenowo founded her own firm in 1994, AD Consulting, an architecture and interior design firm, which has been involved in the design and construction of over 70 projects for the Nigerian Government and various corporate and financial institutions. AD’s clients include the world’s strongest brands like Coca-Cola and L’oreal.[/b]

In 1963, Chief Adegunwa set up Essay Holdings Group, to carry out the photography business. Within a decade, it had become one of the first fully-equipped Colour Laboratories in Nigeria. As part of its expansion bid, the company diversified into the Fast Moving Consumer Goods (FMCG) sector a couple of years later, and established Rite Foods Limited.

The firm produces the Bigi range of non-alcoholic beverages including table water, as well as a wide variety of sausage rolls, such as Rite Spicy Beef Rolls, Bigi and Bigibite Rolls. Its' beverages come in the following flavours: Bigi Tropical, Orange, Lime & Lemon, Cola, Bitter Lemon, and Apple. Their multi-million naira fully-automated factory is situated on several hectares of land in Ososa, near Ijebu-Ode in Ogun State. It was launched in 2014, with an objective to produce world class quality food and beverages in Nigeria, and its' adherence to high quality standards has allowed it to thrive in a market dominated by international brands. The story of renowned business mogul, Alhaji (Dr.) Sulaiman Adebola Adegunwa, can be likened to the proverbial Grass to Grace. He started his career as a Photographer and with the grace of God, he stepped up his game and became a big player in the Photography business.
