John Boyega stamps his Nigerian identity at premiere of Star Wars film

John Boyega, star actor in the new Star Wars movie, The Rise of Skywalker has proudly announced his Nigerian heritage to the world, with a head-turning Nigerian attire.

At the premiere of the movie held at Cineworld in Leicester Square, London on Wednesday night, Boyega decided to show up on the red carpet in the full Nigerian traditional attire, wearing a stunning blue agbada and danshiki, with gold detailing. He also complemented with a matching ‘fila'(cap).

The dress certainly stands out, just like the man.

As the Mail Online reported, “The Rise Of Skywalker” is the last film in the nine-episode run of Lucas Film movies that first began in 1977.

Boyega, full name, John Adedayo B. Adegboyega, was born to Nigerian parents on 17 March 1992 in London. He twice visited Nigeria last year.

He started acting from primary school and rose to prominence in the UK over his role as Moses in the 2011 sci-fi comedy film Attack the Block.

He went on to play Finn in the 2015 film Star Wars: The Force Awakens and its 2017 sequel Star Wars: The Last Jedi. Boyega’s other credits include historical drama film Detroit (2017), the science fiction film Pacific Rim: Uprising (2018), four episodes of the television series 24: Live Another Day and the drama Imperial Dreams (2014). Boyega received the BAFTA Rising Star Award in 2016.

Airbus and Green Africa announce strategic partnership with MoU for 50 A220s

Green Africa Airways, Nigeria’s Lagos-based airline, has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for 50 A220-300 aircraft, one of the major orders to be placed globally for the A220 programme and the largest ever from the African continent.

Babawande Afolabi, Founder & CEO of Green Africa Airways said: “Together with Airbus, we are incredibly proud to announce the largest order ever for the A220 from the African continent. The Green Africa story is a story of entrepreneurial boldness, strategic foresight and an unwavering commitment to using the power of air travel to create a better future.”

Airbus Chief Commercial Officer Christian Scherer, speaking from the Singapore Airshow, added: “We are excited about the Green Africa project, its legitimate ambition and its professionalism, evidenced by their most discerning choice for their operating assets. The unique characteristics of the A220 will allow the airline to unlock destinations and route pairs that previously would have been considered non-viable. We look forward to our partnership with Green Africa and to accompany their development with the most efficient aircraft in its class.”

The A220 is the only aircraft purpose-built for the 100-150 seat market; it delivers unbeatable fuel efficiency and widebody passenger comfort in a single-aisle aircraft. The A220 brings together state-of-the-art aerodynamics, advanced materials and Pratt & Whitney’s latest-generation PW1500G geared turbofan engines to offer at least 20 percent lower fuel burn per seat compared to previous-generation aircraft, along with significantly lower emissions and a reduced noise footprint. The A220 offers the performance of larger single-aisle aircraft. At the end of January 2020, the A220 had accumulated 658 orders.

John Boyega Inks Netflix Deal for Slate of African Films

The streamer has signed a multiyear pact with the ‘Star Wars’ actor’s UpperRoom Productions, which has a focus on West and East Africa.
Netflix has teamed with Star Wars alumnus John Boyega as it eyes Africa as its next major source of content.

The streamer, which debuted its first African Original Queen Sono last month, has signed a development deal with Boyega’s U.K.-based UpperRoom Productions, with a specific focus on non-English language films from West and East Africa. Three features are included in the multiyear deal, The Hollywood Reporter understands, two from Nigeria and one from Egypt, with UpperRoom developing projects based on African IP such as literary properties, Nollywood classics, screenplays and mythology.

The arrangement heralds a move away from Netflix’s traditional first-look deals, with the company instead transferring to more bespoke development partnerships with talent and production banners. It also marks the first set of productions from UpperRoom since Boyega founded the company in 2016 to facilitate his debut production role on Pacific: Uprising, in which he starred, and helps define its focus as a producer of content from West Africa, reflecting Boyega’s own Nigerian heritage, and East Africa, reflecting the Sudanese heritage of UpperRoom’s vp productions, Yara Shaikh.

"I am thrilled to partner with Netflix to develop a slate of non-English language feature films focused on African stories and my team and I are excited to develop original material. We are proud to grow this arm of our business with a company that shares our vision," said Boyega.

"Africa has a rich history in storytelling and for Netflix, this partnership with John and UpperRoom presents an opportunity to further our investment in the continent while bringing unique African stories to our members both in Africa and around the world," said David Kosse, Netflix’s vp international film.

Since Pacific: Uprising, UpperRoom has been developing a slate of projects across film and TV, including some unscripted content, with the day-to-day operations overseen by Shaikh. Last year, it came on board as exec producer for the South African crime-thriller God Is Good, from writer-director Willem Grobler and being produced by former Sony International producer Josephine Rose through her new banner, Bandit Country.

Alongside Queen Sono, Netflix recently signaled its intent to increase investment in Africa’s creative community with the production of its first original scripted series from Nigeria, the yet to be titled Akin Omotoso Project, as well as other African Originals — Blood & Water and Mama K’s Team 4 — that will premiere later this year.

But Sowore has openly stated in the past that he isn't Yoruba, as much as the IPOB crowd like to ignore the fact. That Sowore has a Yoruba-sounding last name is as misleading as imagining Amaechi is Yoruba because his first name is Rotimi.

Do you even know what you are posting? shocked That 1st picture you attached to your post, showing a girl with tribal marks actually depicts an Igbo girl, and not a Yoruba girl! sad It was taken from a gallery showing pre-colonial Igbo Land (Igbo people prior to Colonization). You will find more details about it on this blog: Ụ́kpụ́rụ́ - Historical images of the Igbo, their neighbours and beyond. There is also a picture of an Igbo palmwine tapper there with Ichi marks, on his face. http://ukpuru.tumblr.com/post/24845505853/an-igbo-palm-wine-tapper-with-ichi-marks-on-his . But honestly, all you guys need to stop this. angry We were talking about commerce and industry before this crap started, and not tribal marks. sad

Mo Abudu, a leading Nigerian TV and film producer, will help Netflix create features from western Africa
Lagos, Nigeria (CNN)As part of its continued expansion into Africa, American media streaming service and producer, Netflix, has partnered with Nigerian filmmaker Mo Abudu to create new content from the west African nation.

Abudu, who owns a production company, EbonyLife TV, will work with the teams at Netflix to create two original series as well as multiple Netflix-branded films.
