I have been to dubai twice, in every country, there is always a domain for the rich, average and the poor. so don't classify that Dubai is what you portray here. main looking at it, most of those men using public toilet are not from Dubai but near by Arab country.

There is ghetto area even in Paris and Washington DC....Dubai is rich but know that every body cannot be rich. If everybody is rich then technically it means everybody is poor....

Dubai as a Brand has been the brain child of Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum. He has created this aura that Dubai is RICH and that it is happening.

Truth truth however is far from it.

It is EXACTLY like any other country.

The only difference being - whatever is being shown on the Media is totally controlled by the Ministry of Media & Communications - which is the Government.

And they have one and only one Agenda - to keep the image that Dubai, UAE is forever rich.

If you doubt what I have to say - ask yourself - why is it that is absolutely NO POOR person pictured or pictures or news that is talked about openly?

How come recession has never hit Dubai, UAE?

How comes Emirates Airlines is the ONLY airlines IN THE WORLD minting Profits and Profits (with only one year loss so as to give a good reason to cancel the excess orders of over-purchasing Boeing aircrafts) while all other airlines ALL OVER THE WORLD are suffering losses or closing down?

How comes NO ONE hears about the unpaid salaries? Prostitution business? Corporate Racism? Jail Stories in the UAE?

In fact - are you even aware that if you write something about the UAE when in the UAE - you can get jailed & deported ASAP? EVEN IF it is the truth?

DO YOU KNOW that if you EVEN LIKE something on facebook - A Group or comment that speaks negatively about the Country (for example now that UAE has broken ties with QATAR - if you EVEN wear a shirt that supports Qatar or send a message support Qatar - its bye bye for you?)

I know it because I am the second generation of Expats that lived there for 40 years.

Today Dubai is only surviving on charging its expats very high indirect taxes to live, survive and remain in its country.

All the expensive cars, vehicles, parties, lifestyles - is only people living on Credit and showing off to rub shoulders with the whose who.

But the reality is - every single day people are struggling to pay their bills and survive.

You want to know the reality of Dubai - stop seeing what they show you on the media - it is all planned out and well thought off. Most of it is fake, or incomplete or false.

Want proof?

Check what happened to the 99 years visa?

Check what happened to the property bubble?

Check what happened to the World Islands?

Check what happened to Dubai’s Billion Dollar Debt.

I bet you the chap that posted this thread has not been here..... I have been here for over 2 years and I tell you Dubai is a luxurious city.
The locals who are called emiratis live the good life their entitlements as citizens is something I have never seen b4. Every local is given credit facilities to build homes, start businesses, education etc and guess who pays for the loans? The govt

All these points you raised are not factors to determine the wealth of a country! When you say they owe salaries, is it the govt that's owing salaries or those quack immigrants, usually Indians and Nigerians who open kachara restaurants or car wash without proper feasibility studies? They can't even afford visa fees for their employees in many cases thereby dashing d hope of those poor guys and leaving them to rot in d deserts sun.
You don't even need to be a professor of economics to know dubai is not poor as you pointed out. The oil they have is more than their population. The whole of uae is about 10million, (if they haven't done fresh census) with only 2 million being citizens. Again what they make on tourism alone is enough wealth for some countries.
In all those pictures you posted, can you show me one uae citizen among them?
I am with u on the perspective of portraying Nigeria in good stead but to say UAE is poor is misinformation sir.

The tragedy of this post is that it tends to suggest that the extremely ugly conditions seen here in Nigeria is normal..I say without fear of contradiction that it is not. No country is heaven but saying that Dubai is poor is definitely wrong. Some are even stretching this to US and western world. That is the height of ignorance. Most of these extremely poor ones you see there are immigrants. UAE laws do not protect migrant workers enough so they are exploited. They earn peanuts and live in squalid conditions. This is not the case with their citizens..You cannot replicate Oshodi and Orile (Lagos), Mararaba, Nyanya (Abuja) etc in any decent country. Yes, not when they are 99.9℅ populated by the country's own citizens. And I dare say, UAE is a decent country..

Dubai is not a country. It is an Emirate more like a region or a state.

They have 7 Abu Dhabi and Dubai are by far the wealthiest.

The United Emirates have the 8 highest crude oil deposit in the world and they produce more crude oil than Nigeria.....

Imagine they have a local population of about 1 million or more with 6 million expatriates.

So a country smaller than Nigeria in size and population which earns far more crude oil cash than the whole Nigeria combined and you expect the country to be packaging?

The OP is partly right, there are no 100% rich cities or countries
because there will always be underdeveloped black spots.

What Nigeria need to do is project the images of our best cities
