There's no doubt Nigeria is on a brink. The continuous and relentless agitations by different ethnic groups which has spurned hate speeches and direct opprobrium back and forth same groups across the divides has now gone beyond the mere exchanges of disagreements witnessed over the years up till now.

We are all witnesses, even if from afar how similar situations in different countries later snowballed into major humanitarian crises and eventually war in most cases. Liberia, Sierra Leaone, Somalia, Bosnia and Rwanda are some to mention. But the disturbing dimension here is these countries were not even one tenth of the population of Nigeria as at when they tumbled into near oblivion. More disturbing is the possible levels of violence and catastrophe that would accompany a war situation in Nigeria. Piles and piles of atrocities were recorded in the crisis of the aforementioned countries. At this juncture, every indices both within and from reputable international media platforms are pointing to a possibility of a possible break out of civil war and this organization, which is the only body in world politics with a broad capacity and mandate to intefer in a sovereign nations affairs has refused to act up.

The silence or nonchalance of the UN remains defeaning and one begins to wonder why reaction is a more acceptable norm to proaction in the tenets of the UN. A deployment of diplomatic entreaties here is all the UN needs to get desired results both from the establishment and agitators.

The time for the United Nations to act is now!

It's actually sad and surprising that the UN has chosen this of all times to keep mum. From PMB's absence to the continued agitation, there's a lot to be said and an immediate need for intervention. Yet they've decided to go all silent. Frustrating. Hopefully, someone will act before this country disintegrates into warfare. No surprise, though, the UN, AU, US, and any other world power would only 'act' when the nation is on the brink and there seems to be no going back.

Even if they choose to let us fool ourselves into war, I hope the warring parties hang on for another 3 years so I can get myself ready to disappear from here.

Lol at the last paragraph. It's always been bemusing how these guys work there you begin to wonder if it's a subtle attempt at reducing world population or they obtain some gratification in allowing these atrocities to fester before they intervene.
