The All Nigeria Peoples Party (ANPP)
presidential candidate in the 2003 and 2007
elections, General Muhammadu Buhari, has
resigned his membership of the party
because of what he termed “irreconcilable
ideological differences”.
His resignation took effect from February 1,
2010.
In a letter he signed and sent to the party’s
National Secretary, Saidu Kumo, Buhari cited
irreconcilable ideological differences
between himself and the party, which he
claimed had sidelined majority members of
the party.
He said this development made it impossible
for him to contribute meaningfully in the
running of the affairs of ANPP.
“It is also a result of the above that I have
taken the painful decision of withdrawing
my membership of ANPP with effect from
February 1 2010.
“Sincerely, I regret that I had to leave the
party in which I received and enjoyed
tremendous love and support from many.
But this decision has been taken in the
greater interest of our fatherland, ,” Buhari
stated.
The former military ruler expressed hope
that he could work together with the party
in deepening democracy in the country,
even when he is no longer in their fold.
He thanked ANPP for the opportunity given
to him to fly the party’s ticket in the last two
presidential elections.
When contacted, Kumo acknowledged the
receipt of the letter from Buhari and wished
him good luck in his future political
ambitions. He said that the party received
the letter yesterday morning.
Reacting to the development, a member of
the Elders Committee of ANPP and one time
presidential candidate under the defunct
National Republican Convention (NRC) Bashir
Tofa said in an interview with THISDAY that
“Buhari’s resignation was therefore to
preempt his dismissal from the party.”
He added that “Buhari’s ideology is ‘I must
be president and no one is better than me
in Nigeria’. Those he will associate with will
soon find they too will have ideological
differences with him.”
“He will do well to exit from politics all
together as he himself has said in his letter
the reason for his resignation is the
ideological differences he has with party
leaders, and another reason may be the
unfounded rumours that is circulating that
some party members will place a memo to
the next NEC meeting in Maiduguri for his
suspension and eventual dismissal from the
party for anti-party activities.
“I suggest he (Buhari) will go home and rest
and be content with the status of an elder

The most delightful news that could emerge with respect to Baboon Buhari would be if he abandoned breathing for good, and then died in short order, so as to spare the world the boring details of his eminently deserved slide into irrelevance and obscurity.

You have only one vote, wait and cast it. Who says other parties should do
follow follow with this useless rotation that has led us astray?
