Deziani Alison Madueke, the former minister of petroleum resources under President Goodluck Jonathan, paid whopping $37.4m in cash to acquire the banana Island property which was temporarily forfeited to the federal government by order of a Lagos high court on Wednesday. The property is located at Building 3, Block B, Bella Vista Plot 1, Zone N, Federal Government Layout, Banana Island Foreshore Estate, has 24 apartments, 18 flats, and six penthouses. The revelation which shocked lawyers, court officials and those at the public gallery of the court was contained in court papers filed by the Economic and Financial Crime Commission (EFCC) in an ex parte application pursuant to Section 17 of the Advance Fee Fraud and Other Related Offences Act, No. 14, 2006 and Section 44(2)(k) of the Constitution... We are now talking about a woman who held positions miles ahead of that.. We have not even asked questions about one time governors that turned multi billionaires or senators etc.. Esseite: So you think OPEC president that is only honorary and consequent of being the petroleum minister of a member country, is an avenue to become richer than ones prior status? You believe that a Nigerian minister is paid so much salary as to be able to pay cash of $37.4m? Is she the only person to have worked in senior management of Shell or any Oil major in Nigeria?
