it's a good idea. I ventured on same.
My advice;

don't jumb into it without capital (you may not feed yourself, but you must feed your birds well -at the right time).

You need Prior study, feasibility and co.

You better volunteer at any successful poultry around.

You may start with few birds, for now.

What are you after? eggs? (layers), meat?(broilers). . . remember, focus on one for now.
Whichever; study and understand the 'market'.

Read books, and attend seminars on poultry farming.

Most important:
Love Your Birdsmore than yourself.

hmm, "not ready to work for anyone". That's an entrepreneur in the making talking. i like that.
xreal has said it all. but fish farming seems to be the bomb now. Have you thought of it?
Anyway if poultry is your choice, then go ahead. somebody else posted a topic similar to yours here on nairaland. maybe you should check it up and read the numerous replies. I hope it helps.
