Green houses are part of the steps taken by Borno government in its post insurgency agricultural activities plans.

The seedling production centers were built to nurse and supply improved high yielding seeds for commercial and subsistence farming to revitalize the state's agricultural potentials.

An Indian worker in one of the facilities visited by Borno governor Kashim Shettima reveals the variety of seeds used in the nursery. He said they are currently trying two seeds sourced from Holland and France, and they have been using seeds from 6-7 top notch tropical seed production companies in India, and other European countries.

In his remark the governor said:

"We prefer seeds that are ideal for the tropic because of our peculiar climatic challenges. Our target is on how to add value, if we can stick to best quality there are certain characteristics that our people prefer in the tomato, so any tomato with bigger size & moisture is the best option for our tomato processing plant"

Do we carry out research?

Can you give a Nigerian researcher/administrator a 100 million Naira grant and he won't marry a 3rd wife?

Can we stick to a plan without cutting corners?

Do we have the years of experience and expertise for supervision and practice?

For now, we would sadly be ruled by foreigners in the area of scientific application.

No vex.

In reality there are. They will never be given the chance as long as they aren't the family friend to d girlfriend of the governor or the late uncle sibling last child before he died. In short words, if u aren't connected, u are on ur own. Too bad, no serious person is waiting for the government to do anything for dem, only d lazy asses with nothing to offer than to be a degree holder in embezzlement swan d government and d government acknowledges. Take a good look at all the best istitions in the world, u will find a Nigerian or more doing his or her thing there

You've answered your own question. You people can't maintain a university hostel toilet so how can you be trusted with anything else?

thats not exactly true
seeding breeding may be technical but seedling propagating of foreign seeds is not

just get your planting media and tray and environment

engaging foreigners may be an avenue to siphon money oversea...

I'm simply saying we are all mouth no trousers.

Go on the science direct repository to see how much research is carried out on any subject in the advanced world.

Notice how much is expended on equipment, even for things you see as flimsy.

Think about a Nokia 3310, do you think we can make that today in Nigeria? Note that is a phone of the 90's.

Juxtapose and extrapolate that information in the area of agricultural research in the year 2017 and ask yourself if we were to embark on a programme would we have the up-to-date science and practice?

Then combine our inherent attitude - avarice, corruption, bad work ethics (if your employer refuses you phone calls during work hours won't you call him a tyrant?) , limited knowledge Base and ask yourself if as an investor you would not employ a foreigner who has already achieved in this chosen field as a consultant / superintendent.

Just a realist.

For now, we just don't do it enough and with diligence.

We have brilliant minds blighted by the harsh realities of survival, culture and society.

Until we eschew our own vices, until we exorcise our demons, no vex na oyibo, chinko, Indians, even Lebanese go dey rule us.

Dem try.

You need to visit ScienceDirect to understand what I'm talking about.

If only you guys knew how far research has gone you would know we sit at the bottom of the pile whilst still primitive in our dealings.
